Foothold Install Materials

Hi all,

Just got my Tom21 footholds in the mail. This is my first time installing them, and actually my first time glassing anything. So I have a few questions on supplies.

BTW this is for my 08 SJ.

What do I need to do the glassing? How much mat and what kind. How much resin and what kind. How much foam do I need to buy to pour in from the top?

And lastly, where to get this stuff. Once I get the supplies I'll ask about how to lay the glass. :woot:

you can get all this at a marine supply store. as far as materials and quantity there are plenty of foothold install threads. a quick search will bring up a few.

2lb - FOAM-0204. It took 3oz of each part per foothold. Plenty left over to do a second ski.
3:1 Epoxy Resin EPOX-635311 - I had just a few oz left when done.
Fiberglass cloth 3 inch tape - FG-C03Y 9 yards
Aerosil-Cabosil - FL-AER010 For thickening your mixture to glue them in place.

Pick up some brushes, a roller, and some of the smallest mixing containers.

I say get more glass\resin than you think you need or as suggested. Its always good to have some laying around for emergencies or other projects.

I know this is an old thread and this is probably a dumb question (i don't know anything bout fiberglass) but do you use the same epoxy resin to glue the holds in as you use to put on the glass when installing them?

Yes, use the same resin, you mix in the aerosil and cabosil in to thicken it up
