New AC Alum Handlepole :-(

You sound like you're trying to turn this into a witch hunt. You say that the top of your pole was off by 3/4" at the top. Myself and a couple others stated that by simply adjusting the pole bracket you can bring the pole back into alignment by a few inches. You stated that every pole you tried was straight but you didn't mention anything about what kind of poles they were nor did you mention anything about you adjusting the bracket. If you step back to high school geometry, that 3/4" difference on a 40" pole equates to 1° off. In order to compensate for that 1° off, you would need to twist the bracket a whopping 0.050" to get the pole perfectly centered. The average engine gets shimmed more than that.

My carburetors have adjustments if I need to tune... My handlepole mount doesn't. It has ZERO play. My only option would be drill out the holes in the deck and bottom plate to make the adjustment, and I'm not doing that.

Jeff, twice Mark has said that the holes were drilled incorrectly..... Not sure how your missing that. Also they (Mark) is working to make sure your replacement is perect for you. Even to the point of bringing a OEM Bracket to test it on as well. Looks like they are doing a pretty good job of making it right. I think this may be way more than UMI would have down. I know XMetals policy.

No, Mark never said the hole were drilled incorrectly. He just says the pole was off. I don' think they understand if the holes aren't cut correctly, it will mount crooked. He mentioned they tested it by putting a straight edge on the bushing and running it up the side of the pole.... that doesn't work. Also, measuring from the pivot holes up to the top of the pole leaves too much margin for error. Simply test it like it mentioned in my post, and I'd be satisfied.

I'm not trying to bash Mark at all in this forum, I've heard he is a good guy and he has treated me quite well... Unfortunately, I think he's been dealt a chitty hand.

Zero play would imply that the fasteners act like rivets that swell into the holes. Bolts are designed to have slop unless the holes were drilled incorrectly. If your pole mount can't be moved at all, you can expect cracks to form from those holes very soon since they are pre-stressed. All the ski's I've worked on could be wiggled once the bolts were loosened.

I understand sh*t happens and the occasional slip up happens but we've been trying to help you sort out the problem. I have run two different AC poles on two different ski's and they both work awesome. Many of us have first hand experience with resolving your exact situation but you're acting like our experience is useless. From your responses so far you only seem concerned with proving that you're right, we're wrong, and the product you received should fit perfectly on a ski that isn't perfect and built by hand at the Yamaha factory where no two ski's are alike. You can call me an @ss all you want but those are the facts as I see it...
