Why you should Vent your ski before hitting Start- BOOOOOOM!!!(Raider Explosion)

First off I bought this from a guy tonight..this did not personally happen to me. He came away unharmed from the incident and here is his story.

Guy said during the winter months he would go out and occasionally hit the start button just to fire skis up for 15 or 20 seconds.

On this occasion, when he hit the start button all hell broke loose. The ski literally exploded. The explosion was so intense, it blew the hood off breaking ALL brackets. Only thing holding the hood on is the Steering cable. The steering cable was yanked so hard it broke the steering nozzle.

The battery box blew out of the ski and was imbedded in his ceiling. Shrapnel flew throughout his garage leaving holes in the ceiling as well. He was standing off to the side and somehow nothing hit him. The ski then caught fire and was pushed outside where it was soon put out.

This was all in a 3 car garage...It BROKE his walls and blew his kitchen door open, breaking the frame. In all of the corners and edges of the walls, the plaster is broken inside the garage and inside the house. It literally shifted the walls.

All in all he said it was up over $15k in damage just to his garage...thats not counting the jetski, car and other things that were damaged as well.

I question how his door was broken off the frame, yet his eardrums weren't permanently gone. Basically his garage was closed (I assume) and a huge air pressure change happened which the house wasn't built for. But how the hell is he alright?

Dang!!! I almost always do that with my ski anytime Im in the garage!

This ski almost had to have had some sort of a fuel leak.

I guess on the raiders though its even a bit worse if this happens since the entire hood latches down over the engine compartment...On a regular sitdown the seat would just blow off and most of the force would go straight up. On this model it had no choice but to blow out all the weakest links...and then some.

Going to tear into it this weekend to see what usable parts I can get. Motor appears to be good minus a bit of wiring being burnt.

His main garage door was opened. This happened about 10 feet from his kitchen door. For all I know it may have not been closed all the way and the force just pushed the door open very hard. However, I don't see this guy to be the type to leave doors inside doors open during the winter.

He is a bit older..he said the sound and explosion sort of shocked him but he didn't mentioned any hearing problems.

I would be afraid to see what would have happened if his garage door was closed. I guarantee it would have burnt the house down. He wouldn't have been able to get the ski pushed outside in his driveway because it would have buckled the doors......He said it took him about 3-4 minutes to come to realization of what really happened and to put the fire out.

Wow regardless of the door, thats impressive to get enough force to crack the drywall all around the ceiling with the door open no less.

That hull had to just be filled entirely with fumes, just a massive explosion.

taking notes for then i do a top deck conversion.

Haha...just remove all parts that could possibly catch fire, make sure hood is strapped on real nice and tight, let fuel inside vaporize real good in the sun and then hit some form of ignition source.

Then pray that it blows the two halves apart without damaging anything else.

Get it on Video!!
