Recommend me a good carb(s) setup...

Alright..want to get this squared away and hopefully using your guy's knowlege I won't dump bunches of money in doing so...I already know its going to cost me money but would like to get it right the first time.

1997 Yamaha RN SJ

Small list of mods:
62t 701 with 61x Riva pump gas ported cylinder
Factory B pipe
Stock waterbox
Compression at 175 psi
MSD Enhancer
Riva lightened flywheel

Thats the main mods. I have a riva dual carb manifold for 44-48 so I could go the dual carb route, or I was considering going single carb and having this 46 made into a Blackjack. This is strictly a freestyle ski..no racing and not seriously concerned about top speed.

I probably have a set or two of OEM 44's that I could have modded and also have a set of Buckshot 46's...not sure if those could be made into blackjacks? I know the buckshots are more for racing apps and that most people do not like them..which is why im avoiding using them.

Really just looking for some educated info or firsthand experience. Thanks!

That is probly the worst question to ask on this forum. Every yahoo (who can't tune a carb) will tell you their expert opinion of why the carb they use is the best. Stock 44's can work, 46's unmodded will work very well also. The after market type can be a step up, but what is more important is tunning in what you have. I have used most of what's out there, I have my favorite but most of all don't worry about what name carb you use but how well what you have is tuned. Ok, let the carnage begin!!!!

I would go with blackjacks. You could have the 44's turned into blackjacks or you could have the 46 buckshot's turned into blackjacks but I think dual 46's might be a little big for your motor setup. You could also just get the stock dual 38's blackjacked if you still got them. Its a little cheaper to get the 38's modded and they hit real nice on a 701 motor

I have been running Team Scream modified SBN 44's for several years now. They work just fine on a similar setup motor. But like edbrig said, you have to tune them to your motor.

Yes I am fully aware of that. Thank you for your opinion though.

I know how to filter the good info from the bad, and I have a good idea of who knows what they are talking about. I do not use the info on here as a direct guide to what I do..but some of the people have already went through this same thing and can save me some time by telling me what wil be the best bang for the buck.

I was running modified Stock 38's by Xscream. Great carb set up for the 701/62T motor. When I got that Ski it had Billet 48's! Perfect race carbs, but the 38's made it perfect on the bottom end, & cheap.

I was too and now I have seen the light!!!

I saw your video..that interested me because most of the places I ride at require a decently long idle period and its pretty common for the ski to load up during this time.

Right now I have a line on a decently cheap single carb intake manifold..if it goes through I think im going to run this 46 I have and maybe have it modded. For the time being though I will hold onto my dual carb intake manifold and maybe run some dual carbs in the end.

Keep the info coming guys! I appreciate it.

EDIT: I actually just got a line up on a Riva 62t single intake manifold with spacer and a 46mm Blackjack...Hoping it works out good. Should have it in a couple weeks.

As singles, I have used a Riva Powerbomb 48, an older Full Spectrum 48, and a retail Mikuni SBN 46.
There was no appreciable difference between the two aftermarket carbs, and only slightly less performance out of the SBN. Considering that it can be had much cheaper, I thought it offered the best bang for the buck.
I've run dual SBN38's, dual SBN 44's, dual 48 Full Spectrums, and now dual 46 BlackJacks. Each setup was on a different engine, so I can't compare them. Out of all three, the BlackJacks run the cleanest for me everywhere in the RPM spectrum, but the entire package was set up by Jetworks.
