looks to me like all you need to buy is gas.........

I'd have to agree but with your short riding season I'd invest in a "critcal spares" list. I keep a box around with everything I need to get me back on the water the same day. Nothing worse than eating up most of your season waiting on parts or machine work. Items that improve reliability trump performance anyday in my book.

Critical Spare List;

basic gasket kit, (head, base, manifold, 3 hole headpipe)
OEM starter,
OEM bendix,
coil,
start/stop,
CDI,
crank,
spare cylinder with pistons, ready to go,
Stator,
etc, etc...

If along the way you happen to find some more displacement, so be it. I love my ported 760 and i only paid $500 for the cylinder complete with pistons. There have been some sweet deals on big displacement engines lately.

Sometimes finding a professional tuner to take your ski to, can in most cases get YOUR setup tuned better on what your looking to spend.
Most of the time it's a lot of little things that can make a lot of difference.
