After market hulls in general

It seems the sport is taking a turn to lighter more specialized hulls . This is great innovation for pro and weekend warriors alike. I does seem ; however , we are seeing a lot of structural problems ie. quality issues . Is it just odd to me that people are buying hulls touted to be the greatest hull ever produced , and then selling them a few months after the build.

The question is : Is it a hull problem design / quality or is it riders being fickle.

Maybe the ride characteristics aren't as expected.
I've seen that happen a couple times in person.

After seeing that, I don't think I'd ever buy an aftermarket hull without riding that exact same model first.

If you are refering to Trinity Composites... They are the best hulls on the market as far as quality goes.. Know one is even close to him in this country. the dude Carbon had back issues (surgery) and Pete sold his due to him having a kid.. Nothing negative about the skis has ever been said. I rode the prototype and it was a great ski.. DOn't try to read anything into that, it was merely a coincidence...

I agree with nick 100% please do not look to far into the situation of both carbon and pancake pete... I was there the weekend pete's boat arrived and the quality and craftsman ship is by far the best on the market right now. Not only is the quality the best the design is one off. Not just a copy of an SJ with Gunwales cut and some hardlines thrown in. I spent 2 sessions on the matrix one in the surf and one on flat water and it practically reads the riders mind. U want it to slide it slides, want it to hook and carve it does just that. Do some research on the materials and methods used to construct a Trinity hull vs. say WCF , WDawgs, Wamiltons, lets even throw the stunt hull thing in there and you will quickly realize Trinity produces a far superior product worth every penny!!!! I have no affiliation with Bobby nor do I ride one of his boats but given the choice Trinity all the way!

I don't believe he was pointing just at Trinity. There are a few Lightweight hulls that we have been seeing built and then sold fairly soon after as well.

Each situation is something a little different. One thing I notice is that more independants are getting into building hulls and what we are seeing is their friends getting hulls to support them and then upgrading which each new update to the build sheet.

We are seeing alot of innovation from private builders lately so we should expect to see more transitions as well. Each Hull they build is an improvement over the last or a slight customization for each customer and some guys are close enough to the builder to help design the next model and upgrade when it's available.

The other thing I see going on is surf guys getting lightweight boats designed for flatwater and just not liking the way they handle and then upgrading or ordering a hull that will do what they want.

I think there have been several cases of this. I don't think Kevin was talking about anyone in particular.

I actually wasn't talking about yz250fpilot either. Aircraftsalz and Berky both built up sweet light hulls earlier this year and posted all about them on here only to put them up for sale soon after.
Tem (Berky) is the guy building these hulls so you can expect him to keep building new ones, testing them out and selling them as he moves on to the new versions of the ski and his friends are doing the same as they work with him to continually improve the design. From the outside it may look like something else but from the inside it's R&D at it's finest.

So that's at least 5 guys specifically that have done it now and I know I am leaving at least 1 more out. Each one with their own circumstances.

Can't speak to the white Kommander Matrix ski. I think it's Josh Lustics ski and haven't heard why he's selling. I'm thinking there's something better coming down the pipe, although I can't think of anything better than a Matrix right now. For those Pro guys, sponsorship plays a big role in what ski you ride and there's been alot of camp changes this year.

throw out the sponsored ski's. some pro riders are given ski's and it's up to them to do what they want with them when the season is over.

I think a lot of sales decisions are also based on current economy, for most of the riders this is a huge investment for a toy.......Good economy you have a lot of toys m bad economy you sell some, economy pics back up you buy more....its a circle not a triangle.....

Truefully it all depends on your disposable income ,needs , riding style and ability, for a flatwater rider like me any of these hulls would do just fine and probably last a lifetime, for some of the surf riders regardless of how well built it is initially it may still fall apart in the end.A lot of peeps here have to have the latest and the greatest,of course that changes constantly.

I enjoy building Ski's as much as riding. I can't wait to ride Boyer's new ski as well as my new Carbon Rickter FS1.

So people ask why build a ski, ride it for a few months & sell it. My Superfreak hull was like a test, take a flatwater set up, Superlight at 54lbs & surf ride it & see what happen. It pasted the test, but was to light for my riding style!!!

Tem will have a surf edition hull soon, Just checkout Superfreak Ski's at Daytona.

I would say most people are going to be very happy on a oem SJ hull, I have 3 oem's & One after market. Hard to beat oem for the surf abuse!

I don't get to ride often enough so I tinker to compensate. I built up a sweet 07 back in march and am now doing a Matrix for February. The only thing different for me is that I don't plan on selling either ski anytime soon so don't expect to see me doing another for many years...unless my Wife really likes the Matrix, then maybe she gets a new hull too. ;)

There is so much innovation going on in our sport right now, even with the current economy that it's hard to not get caught up with all the new products. It's an exciting time in freestyle and Freeride. Last weekend I rode with 6 guys and 5 were rocking Team Scream Billet engines, 2 of whom owned multiple verions of.

I can see this addiction getting out of hand. When I sold my SXR everyone thought something was up, so I had to part it. People can think what they want but when it really comes down to it, I would really like to have a lighter weight SXR width shorter hull that works well in all situations. Most likely no matter what I end up with next it most likely will be too fragile for my surf ineperience or get blown around by the wind, etc. That is why the factory skis are just modded and ridden by so many. Aftermarket skis, in general, are for a more specific purpose, and sometimes people change their minds, or now like me finishing this SJ I'm already gearing up for something else. Guess what, someone will wonder what wrong with my ski. LOL

Actually, it is very common to see pro's ski's go up for sale even before World Finals is over. They spend a lot to build them up just for this event (Racing and Freestyle), They do not win a fraction of the cost. So, they sell the equipment to someone who wants a turn key machine who does not have the wherewithall to actually build this level of ski.

Kommanders case is he puts lustic on a ski for the finals and then turns around and sells them. Look at the Lustic's old Blowsion WF ski's. Every one has been up for sale.
