Port & Polish Pump Mod (Kawi 650)

Its hard to notice much difference in just the porting. The polishing is where the big gain is. Think of it like water running off a polished car v a unpolished car. The last ski I did this to (650sx) I had to turn out the throttle stop screw from RPM gain. The performance gain was very noticeable from the bottom to the top. This is my 140 mm kawi pump going in my FX-1. I thought I would share the process seeing how it was not much covered on this mod.

Tools I using.

After a night of polishing I'm calling it quits. The corners are a little hard to get perfect but I'm happy. Don't forget to do the ramp too.

On small pumps like fx1s or 550s it helps alot. I would imagine it would help any pump but maybe not as noticeable as the small ones.
Shawn you have almost inspired me to take my 550 and 650 pumps off and grind some more off of em. Its going to be a long winter.

What did you use to polish it?

Dremel makes a polishing kit, get it to start with and find what works for you $10 at Home Cheep-o. The Dremel pointed Fine stones work good polishing the corners. I ran out of them as they go fast. What easy to get to use the Dremal Flapwheels, then 400/600 grit wet sanding follow by Dremel Abrasive Buffs then wet sand/rub with sope and water and #00 steel wool. You can get it all at Home cheep-o. It doesn't have to be that fine polishing compound finish. Just nice and smoth to the touch.
Wear safty glasses!

Where these the only tools that you used to do the grinding and sanding? I've got my 650 pump pulled from my X2 and want to get this thing cleaned up!

Excellent work by the way!!!

Yes it was the only power tool I used. Good luck and take you time it will be worth it!

Forgot to say get a couple of the 115 and 117 bits you'll need'em. Use tap oil or wd-40 while cutting.

This is a great thread! Driftmaster killer job on the blueprinting!:Banane09:

I did this on my waveblaster as well as bore the nozzle and it totally makes a noticable difference. I have to do the same thing on my RN as well as install wetwolf pump cones!

Once again Driftmaster very nice work!:notworthy:
