Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo bike. Currently set up as single speed with Rennen Rollenlager chain tensioner (http://www.rennendesigngroup.com/).

He has the components to convert back to geared bike (shimano shifters, derailluer and cassette).
Mavic 517 wheelset with XT hubs.

$225 or so. I'm probably looking at it tonight. I'm looking for something simple to hit some trails occasionally but mostly riding with my wife/kids in the neighborhood (read: not fast).

I really like the idea of a single speed setup.

I also don't need anything high end right now. I think this one is from the late 90's but not sure.

Looks good from the pic.

Those frames are bulletproof.

It worth around $200.00

I just converted my Hardtail back to single speed. It makes the trails interesting!!!!!!

Your better off spending $200.00 for that one than $179.00 for a new Schwinn at Target!

Dave Ramsey would say to go to Wal-Mart purchase a $100 bike because chances are it will hang in the shed most of its life dry rotting. Or better yet go to a garage sale or two and pick up a bike for 20 or 30 bucks.

Over the past few weeks there have been a bunch 1-6year old gary fishers that msrp $600-900 listed on CL in the $200-300 range. I had 3 different ones within 100miles that I was debating, before I decided to buy new/leftover. If you wait it out, you might score a really good deal.

Can you believe someone was going to toss this out, I now have it and it may get used once a year or maybe twice, dry rotted tires still hold air and it came with a luggage rack.

Actually Dave would say that that would be a very poor investment. Any moron knows that any bike bought at a mass merchant store (Walmart, KMart, Targer, Academy or etc etc) depreciates by 95% as soon as it leaves the store.

Personally my poor investment goes out at least twice a week for a minumum of 8 miles each. Worth every dime. Hell, in the past 2 months I have ridden the bikes more than the ski's in the last 2 years!

For one: Dave Ramsey would be fine with just about anything I buy now as long as it's cash, which it was. We've been debt-free except the mortgage for 2 years now and it's pretty cool to buy stuff like this outright. Also, DR is not all about "act poor" like so many people think.

Just bought it about 30 minutes ago. It rides really nice and the frame is the 'right' size for me. He gave me all the running gear to switch back to geared but I really like the single speed setup on it and it's geared really well for most riding.

It's a 99 and was his first bike. The 99's have cr-mo frames and you can tell, really light.

I'll probably switch to more road-oriented tires and slap some Honda Wax on it, but it's nice to have a decent bike.

I love "Steel" frames. They ride really well. My hardtail is Alum, but it is a custom Kona - Handbuilt by one of the best custom frame builders out there. It rides great, but it is very stiff!!!!!!!!!!! I dont not ride it very much. Prefer the full suspension. But the HT is fun to get out some. It climbs and accelerates like no other!.

Hit the trails Darin!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd throw that out just so I wouldn't have to look at it. My Mom may like it.

I have an early 90's GT Richochet I need to post up for sale. It was my first nice mountain bike, and it's still in great shape. I just can't seem to let it go for some reason. I've thought about converting it to single speed, but I haven't touched it since I got a FS Cannondale.
