FX-1 Is there a turn plate that will work without bearing system

I bought an FX1 and the prior owner put the older style (about 2") longer alum. pole on it. I like the ride of a shorter or stock pole length. Is there a shortened turn plate that will work using the stock nut and washer. All the turn plates I've found say they are for the after market bearing turn systems. Also, will the steering cable bind up if I shorten the distance from the handle pole cable exit hole. Thanks to anyone who has experience in this.

Or you could shorten your turnplate by drilling and bolting on some straight bars. You can buy a 8 foot piece of 7/8 aluminum bar from Mcmaster carr for about $30 and the redrill your turnplate and install new bolts to make it as short as you want.

I shortned my old turnplate and moved the bars all the way foreward to touch that little nipple that is in the middle about 4 inches foreward

yup... that works.... tried and true.

i dont understand bearing systems
my 90 SJ and 94 FX-1 have stock steering systems, and they are still smooth as ever.....

whereas the bearing systems only last a couple years before they need some R&R
