Barrel Roll Help.

That boat is putting out a poor wake as well, but it can be done from that wake.

Us flat water guys have to do it with about 1/4 of that wake.

It takes balls to even try one, so props for that.

My home away from home.
My buddies moomba threw nice wakes. (I think the bank got it a couple weeks ago) All sacks full and perfect pass on 13mph. You're way ahead of me though. I haven't even successfully stabbed yet. Nice job dude! Keep at it.

I have vid trying it off my own setup wake too...the attempts are pretty poor though. I'll try and load a couple up tonight.

Cam: Try pre-hopping in the opposite direction as the roll direction, right before you roll.

Just from reading others posts on flatwater rolls, I'm convinced I'm not hitting the set up wake right...among other problems with my technique.

Go slower for the setup wake, return to it sooner, and time it to hit either the first or the second waker.
Also, get that pole down, get yourself forward and down and really crank those bars.

Whose ski is that with the RRP pole?

That's Josh's roundnose. It turned out really good. Thanks for the advice!

I'd love to try a roll on your ski, btw.

I'm not done riding yet even though it's cooling off a lot this week. I'll let you know next time we go down to edison and your more than welcome. It's taken 2 years after the original build to break and fix everything and now I can beat the crap out of it and it's staying pretty reliable. The only that has gone wrong was a broken clip that holds the steering cable this year...easy fix.

Let me know - I'd love to come out & try.
You got my number.
It'll be a funny video to post. :lmao:

I forgot!
try hitting that boat wake closer to the back of the boat. i like hitting the v-wake instead of the second or third roller wake. it has more of a sharper face to give you some more height.

I was going to say the same thing. I certainly don't know squat about doing a BR (yet), but as I watched the video I was wondering why you weren't hitting the 1st wake right off of the back of the boat. If nothing else you'd likely get higher. I assume you may be hitting it from further back because there may be cops around or something.

btw, BIG props to you for doing that on a 650sx. I have a buddy who is about 3/4 of the way around on his 650sx.

I don't like trying them off the wake directly off the back of the boat. It's really stiff and seems to always pop the nose straight up. Probably due to my poor technique. I'm determined to get it consistantly so maybe I'll spend some more time on the first wave. I just figure if I can roll a 650 then I should be able to roll anything lol.

Yeah good point. that's what my buddy says. I know you posted this thread up a while ago. Any progress since the last video you posted?

btw, not sure if you remember me. you were really helpful to me a while back when i was thinking about trying to build a freestyle 650sx or 750sx. i appreciate your help!

Not really, I posted these up at the end of last season. I haven't had the chance to work on it any. I really wanted to try some a few weeks ago in the surf but it was my first time and we really only had one good day of surf which still beat me up all day. Ill get it this year. I remember talking to you, glad I was able to help!

I'm not a barrel roll expert either but I know when I do big stabs I like to get as far forward as possible coming off the wake and imediatly drop the nose almost like its cutting sideways through the air as soon as you leave the wake so the upward energy is forced to spin you and your the axis of rotation.

you are hitting the setup wake on the wrong side if you roll clockwise you need to hit the wake on the right side of the ski and rotate with your back over the wave, not away from it. i was trying them just like you setup turn to the left and rolling clockwise . i was told to make my setup wake by turning to the right then quick pre hop from left to right the turn and pin it and tuck. since i have been making my setup wake by turning to the right and hitting the setup wake on the right side of the ski i have noticed a much quicker rotation the wave want to push you feet out from under you use the momentum the wave offers. hopefully that makes since.
think of it like a pendulum

the picture in my avatar is of me trying to roll the wrong way.
