last summer i got this ski fee sat for 5 years got it rebuilt the carb new fuel lines ext a easy tune up got the tittle recently finished doing body work and restored it took it to the river last Sunday i was greatly impressed Im 17 210lbs and this thing Hauled ass with me on it

it handled completely different from my super-jet as expected more of a freestyle ski im happy with it just a few quick questions

- i have a downer parts ski in the back of my garage i believe its a 440 i was told that putting a 440 pump on a 550 is the way to go? (flat water ridging) opinions?

- In the water its hard to start i know its a old ski i just dont want to get stranded on the lake is there a fix for it?

thank you,

There CAN be benefits to a 440 pump on a 550. I would suggest reading some threads on PWC Today, there's much more 440/550 info over there.

If you haven't installed a primer yet, that would help a lot with hard starts.

I can't imagine why a 440 pump would be better then a 550 pump, unless they have different bores. I heard that they're interchangeable...

Do you have to sit there cranking for awhile it before it finally starts?

I'm having the same issue. I recently rebuilt the engine and haven't tried it yet, so don't know if the problem still exists.

the engine was freshley rebuilt before i got it. i know i have it tuned very well. i primed the hell outta it and thankfully i got it started up as i was floating farther and farther down river. i heard putting a newer carbarator with different diraphems (spell check) helps it out.

i have to put it on a stand far enough to get the pump out of the water before it decides to start

My guess right now is try a leak-down test.

I'll let you know Monday if that solved my problem, which sounds kinda similar to your prob.

That's where you're basically sealing the lower portion of the engine and testing it for leaks.

There's plates to put over the intake and exhaust for that.
