My 44 Mikuni goes way rich when doing a fountain at just off idle, it won't clear out at all and will choke the motor eventually. Normal riding I don't notice much of a problem going from idle to wide open. Do I want more or less spring and/or needle and seat.
My pop off must be wrong.

depends on where you are now on your setup. Try the adjustment screws first. You could be taking on water if it happens durring a fountain. There have been several good carb tuning pages/links recently; might want to check them out.

If you are really going rich then you would want a higher pop-off. But as stated, this really depends on where you are now.
NOTE: By turning in the L/S screw you are putting less volume against the N/S...thus kinda raises the point of pop-off.

i might be wrong but i don't think the low speed screw should effect pop off, the needle and seat are the first in the series then the jet then the adjuster.
you can partially compensate with alternating jet sizes ie if the pop off is too high using a bigger jet

You know, after re-reading my own comment on the L/S screw and pop-off...I stand corrected. Looking at the flow diagram I see that the L/S screw is downstream (post pop-off). I thought the L/S circuit had a feeder just prior to the N/S.
if this is on your x2 and your hood is stock, its probably just that youre completely choking out the engine from the submerged air passages on the hood.
No, I rerouted air inlets up high. It should be getting plenty of air.

No, but the front water trap now pulls from way up top under cover in front of the steering, and the upper water trap has 2 additional inlets at the same place. The front trap drain is plugged off, and the rear one is open as well as the stock air inlet. My theory was that if water is hitting the inlet on the side during a fountain it would be sucked up an into the engine bay. Therefore the additional air inlets that stay high and dry would be a suction break and allow the water to drain back out harmlessly. I still think the popoff may be too low, it has a tendancy to load up sometimes just off idle. I have not ever opened the carb to check the settings, just running it the way I got it.
