water helmet

Does anyone have a suggestion on a good water helmet? I have an older Lazer Helmet that was made specifically for the water. The inside has a foam that does not absorb water. Unfortunately i do not believe they make they anymore. It seems like many people are using Moto Cross helmets, but I don't want it getting heavy when it gets wet. Thanks!

I dusted off my old Lazer helmet this weekend for the g/f but she doesn't like it. It's a medium and I only ever wore it a few times in super cold weather. I took pics but they are at home. It's in great shape and it's all black with multicolor graphics.

I have a Bell Bellistic too. It absorbs water if you fall, sub, or stab. It takes 4 or 5 seconds for the water to drain out.

im using this fox helmet for my dirtbike and ski. its a mtn bike helmet so its pretty like, doesnt take on to much water either.

HJC MX helmet, cheap, light and has removable inserts. Also, it has the option to upgrade to closed cell inserts.

Best of all, its DOT crash rated unlike a downhill helmet. If your going to wear a helment, why not get one that offers good protection.

That is what I have been using for 2 seasons. I like it but the rivets holding the chin straps are rusting like crazy, the liner glue has separated in a bunch of places. I am going to try to re-glue it just have not figured out with what. other than those few issues it has been nice to wear.

Unfortunately, a DOT rating just means that the manufacture "thinks" (or their engineers think) it will withstand an impact of a certain force. There is no physical testing that occurs. Some manufacturers might test to that force, but they don't have to.

If you want a helmet that is actually tested, you need a SNELL certified helmet. The manufacturer has to pay for actual testing of the helmet, and it is held to a higher standard for the test rating.

Not saying that helmet is not better than a downhill helmet, it's just that it might not actually be.

I agree. No need for that severe of a helmet. We need the protection from the occasional bump and a guard for our face. I personally don't plan on ramming my head into the side of a barge at 60mph, but I guess it's a possibility.

I agree but if your on a busy lake or your buddy thinks its funny to spash you when you flew off your ski I would imagine those ratings would do well if someone ran over your head (by accident of course) Of course I would think they would be a must if your buoy racing with any others

check out kaliprotectives.com they have super light helmets and they work great in water. the mountain bike full face helmet works best...

HA! I'll show you a trick I learned to keep it dry, but it might not work for you since yours is like two feet long! I'm still jealous ya know, lol. :squint:

That is what i use too. $50 Wal-mart special. Actually looking at another new thread i just saw and then seeing yours i had to laugh. i turfed the inside top of mine. doesnt feel any different wouldnt go around the chin with the turf though. it did keep a lot of weight out.
