pics below... the hard way. especially when you drill the holes in a rush and realize they won't go up high enough to function properly when drilled in the hood channel lol. this hood weighs less than my waterdawg RN hood... its probably around 10-12 pounds instead of 20.

taking out the ty stock liner, beefing up the hood, and properly installing a new liner really isn't that hard (For most people)

I think you should. I've been watching this thread pretty closely since I funked up one of my hoods. Or maybe someone should just offer to make me a new SN hood liner...:wave:

What does a new liner actually do for you? I can see if you need to beef up the stock hood, you would need something to replace the old liner.

But I did some looking last nite and the tubes do stick up in the stock liner. So the biggest gain would be what? Moving the intake holes to the rear of the hood instead of the top?

Edit: Just saw the posts that showed up while I was typing this. So apparently there is some weight savings as well?

when we did my buddies hood in the post above, we glassed over the front holes, built a new liner and made sure the tubes went nice and high up into the hood so the water wouldn't dump right down the tubes into the hull.


right now he is still using a crappy hydro turf hood seal, so he still gets a bit of water intrusion but i think once he swaps out to an oem seal he should be okay.

Nice work. I just finished mine up the way demo did his. Only took me an hour and a half. It's suppossed to be a good weekend in the midwest too! Can't wait for the water test!

Nice work guys, I did a sub tonite and had to wait 2 minutes for my bilge to pump out so the motor would run right. Time to start my modding. Hope it's not thread jacking to post my pics here.

Planning on sealing the thing in with loads of 5200 and opening up the same area you guys are for drainage.

i did mine today, this is how i did it.

every thing fitted really nicely. I could have skipped on the glue probably if I wanted to. next is to fill the holes in the front of hood instead of duct tape, and drill 2 holes for pool hose in the middle. Should end up working pretty good.

This looks great what tubing did you use ? what is the pool hose ?

I think it was 1 inch pvc. I could have probably used 1.5 inch but this was stuff i had laying around.

pool hose is hose looks like this.

I plan on using two pieces in a similar location as you did.

rode with my hood mod tonight
worked great!
a LOT less water coming out the bilge outlet and
no more fishbowl hood :bigok:
and judging by all the water coming out the pipes
after a stab, I think it is a success
now all I need is a one way valve
that lets water out the front holes
but not in!

well it definitely works great, proof of concept
now I need to beef up the construction
this winters epoxy and glass project
4200 not up to the job

well got ambitituous this weekend
the 5200 had pretty well broken up and PVC was loose.
pulled the pipes out, replaced them with thin animal balloons
and layed up epoxy and cloth on them.
here is the initial result, still needs more layers:

balloons stayed inflated just long enough for the epoxy to start to set up
a couple more layers should be good!
