need help bottom end please

I am in process of changing out crankseals with engine upside down. (just did top end, I know it's harder!) but my question is, is the crank shaft bolted or attached to the bottom of the case? I cannot see it in the microfiche of engine and this is my first time in the bottom end. I have the case bolts out, but when lifting the crank is coming with it. help!

The crank just sits in there, DONT CRAM A SCREW DRIVER BETWEEN THE CASES! Just keep working it, There should be some tabs you can use for leverage but if you pry between the two cases with a screw driver and scare the mating surefaces they will be scrap metal. The bearings on the cranks will have little holes ( one per bearing) that rest on a metal dowl (u will see on the up upper case once you split) to keep the outside from free spinning.

just keep working it, the dowls just hold the outside of the crank bearings in place, Be careful with the mating surefaces! :) Best of luck, Just finished a rebuild last week.

Could be caught on the center dowel that holds the center bearing of the crank in place. It should wiggle free after a bit of playing around. Good luck

Hey guys, just letting you know a light rubber mallet tap on each of the crank and the bottom half came right off. Thanks again! I do have a quick question, what's the proper way grease new seals? Should I use a marine grease? How much and exactly where? I'm learning, but man it's fun!

I would replace with new seals, they are pretty cheap, will set you back a week but well worth it since you already put for this effort. Save yoruself time and money and just order new seals! Seal failures happen, not often but they do (seen it last summer) I usually put a light coat of 1211 where the seals rest.

so 1211 on the portion of seal resting in crankcase, but what about inner ring of seals on shaft? any grease there? (I had new seals I didn't use from a kit from last top end I put in 2 seasons ago)

There ya go! My seals were about 5 hours old when I hydro locked the motor so my seals were still good just swapped them to another stock oem I had :)
