Superjet Mid-Shaft

ive had one completely lock up on me. it just stopped my engine like a rod going through the cases.

to change it, you have to remove your engine, undo the 3 bolts that hold the housing to the bulkhead and press the shaft out of the housing. youll more than likey want to change the whole housing assembly.

Wonderful sounds like alot of fun but what happens when they are going bad? My friend rode it and said it felt like there was something caught in the prop?

Also when the ski is sitting in the water you can stick your hand under the carrier and feel water coming in. I've got a brand new WSM carrier for 701 superjets that I ordered by mistake for a 650 if you need one.

4-5 seasons!? That gresase fitting is there for a reason.
I had the original one in my FX1 and it is still running fine. 15 years!

I grease it with the zerk fitting 1-2 times a year. As long as you keep it greased it should last a long time. I have never had a berring go bad. I have replaced a stripped short shaft and used the same housing/berrings for years.

The older 650's dont have a grease fitting but I would hope it would last more than 4-5 seasons. The one in it is original as far as I know, its a 90'.

Just tested to see if the housing got hot and it didnt at all. Im asuming that the bearing has to be really f 'ed for it to get hot in 30 seconds? Anyone know how else to test or tell if my mid-shaft is bad?

The water test is how I always check. I had one that was so bad there was no bearing to speak of so it never got hot. It was also perfectly aligned so there was no noise. If you grease them and and it comes shooting out or doesn't feel like there is any resistance, that is another sign they are bad.
