Other Gel Coating

I am needing to get the bottom of my ski refinished and I am considering taking it and getting it gel coated. I was just wondering how well does the gel coat hold up on the ski's. I know they make a spray on under coating that is put on boats the is suppose to be super strong. Just let me know what yall think on this subject.

They make coloring agents you can add to epoxy to make it white or what ever other color you may want. If you go with the epoxy painting route, this would be $10 well spent.

If you go with epoxy use the graphite powder,it turns the epoxy a dark gray, blackish color depending on how much you add,but it is super tough and abrasion resistant, you can get it from West System.

Have any of yall ever hear of anyone putting Garilla hull on there jet ski? It is a boat underspray that is like bed liner, but you are not suppose to be able to knock a hole in it or your money back. That is kinda what I am thinking about right now.

i would think a Rhino liner type epoxy would work if you could get it without the texture.

LineX smooth? Most are textured and rubbery so you dont slip on a wet truckbed.

stuff is pretty heavy too. compared to paint. but i guess its all in how thick you spray it on.

rhino lining wouldnt disrupt water flow because if it is rough it actually goes faster.

if you own a bass boat you can take like 200 grit to the bottom and gain 2 or 3 mph.

if you have ever felt the bottom of a slalom ski they are not smooth at all

just an FYI, in turbulent flow (which is what we mostly see in jet-ski's) surface roughness has a great effect friction, so roughening a hull would slow it down....weather you would notice it or not is a different story....

the only exception to this would be some type of patterned roughening....which would not apply when they use a coating like that....

I am thinking about Herculiner, but straining it to remove the chunks. Then thin it and apply with brush. It will be a while until I get to this, but when I do, I'll post pics.

Here is the latest on the gorillia hull. I called a guy who does it and he told me that it will work on a ski just fine. He claims the skis he has put them on the it only slowed it down by maybe 1 mph but, it made it corner harder and handle better. So I guess I am going to try this stuff and I will let all of yall know how it turns out.

I droped the ski off Friday at the shop that is putting this hull material on for me. The is only going to charge me $200 to put he hull material on and fix the hole in the hull. I should be getting it make Friday and I will take some pics and post them for every one to see.

I got my ski back and it was well worth the wait. I did loose about 1-2 mph topend, but I will corner and cut so much harder. It also is much more stable. I will take some pics of the ski this weekend so everyone can see it.
