Last night spent an hour adjusting the carbs following the direction from this site and it finally worked. The boat rips. I started with low and high speeds at 1 turn out. And started slowly adjusting the the high speed. The ski would have too much fuel in the high speed circuit so i started to screwing them in at 1/8 of turn on every try and after about 5-6 adjustments i got the top speed nice a solid. It would take off nice and you can just feel and hear the engine running nice and clean at top rpms. Then i began playing with the low speed screws and did the same till the take off was perfect and no hesitation. Ski runs 100 times better and much more power. You can just hear the engine barking like a dog every time you pull the throttle. Takes time and patience but once done, makes huge difference

You really should do the low speed first because it affects the high speed circuit. I would go back and double check your high speed tuning now if you haven't already.

i didnt use the tach although i have one. The directions did say to start with high speed but i will read more into it. Thanks tho. I mean regardless the ski runs a lot better and was a little surprised to get this much more power out of it. Its like i got a new motor!!!!

To set properly you need to use a tach. These are the best instructions I have seen on this site.

simply because I am a rookie to the tuning side of things, how do you properly tune with a tach. That article states "Start with the screws set at 1 turn out, and tune with the tachometer for peak Rpm". For someone who has never done this, this is pretty vague. Another "vague" point when reading about tuning carbs, and this is from factory pipes website I think dubbed from mikuni "If the engine hesitates, the carb is lean. If the engine takes a second or two to clear out and then accelerate, the carb is too rich." Is it just me but if the engine takes a second or two to clear, would that be a hesitation??? HELP!

lean/hesitation - rpms drop then go up, if really lean it will actually die
rich/bog - rpms climb slowly then it lights up all of a sudden and goes

Using the tach, make a few WOT runs. Then adjust your HS + or -. If the RPMS drop from the initial run then go the opposite way. Do this until you find the highest "peak" RPM.

what type of tach and where is the best place to purchase? Thanks for the info, it's bound to seem too much like a training course on here to the experts sometimes.

You will get mixed opinions on this. Tiny tach is best economically but is slow at updating. Or the PET tach is much better but much more expensive.

You would want model number TT226NR-1C or TT226R-1C (only difference is the latter has ability to reset the accumulated hours).
