From the bed... to the garage - and back!

Yes, I know what you were thinking... sorry to disappoint!

I guess crunch time is coming... My ski is coming home in a couple weeks.

This is my first ski and I don't have everything I need yet for dealing with it in my garage.

I need a way to pull it out of the bed of my truck and load it on to a cart. And a way to reload it, on the same cart. This cart, also needs to be able to be pushed across the lawn to the shed. The lawn is pretty rough, it's not smooth.

Does anyone know where I could buy a cart like that, or does anyone have a suggestion of something else to use?

I was figuring I would just build one... but I've not built something like that before and I'm looking for suggestions.

Anyone ever built a 4x4 jetski cart before? lol

My roommate isn't interested in helping me carry it around though. Probably a couple times, but if I have to bug him more than that, it won't make him happy... lol

So I need some kind of option to tote it around, load it and unload it at home.

Get a 6-pack of cheap beer. Drink one and smash the bottle on your roommie's head. A few minutes later ask politely if he would like to help you to carry the ski inside. Make sure he knows you have another bottle ready. Repeat if necessary.

Get a beach cart. Can't think of any good way for you to get it on and off of it solo though unless you have the ability to mount a come along or winch on the ceiling of your garage or a tree limb or something.

Simple.

Get a couple 2x4s and build a rolling platform. Use a 2x6x10' cut in half for the rails. Use 2 stationary and 2 pivoting pneumatic tires. Get wide ones to handles sand as well.

Simple, cheap, and when you're done it can be loaded and unloaded by 1 person if around the same height as the truck.

If you want, I can post a pic of what I'm talking about when I get home.

EDIT: found some crappy pics. http://x-h2o.com/showthread.php?t=44312
My (then new) SJ is sitting on it.

A beach cart is still the best option for rough terrain but unfortunately also a pricey one. One ski stays on the beach cart in the garage at all times and I have homemade steel rolling carts made up for my other skis. I also picked up a cheap used AC Scissor stand which works good too.

If you don't want to build one, keep your eyes open for a used beach cart or you can buy a new one from either Bigfoot or TBM. I own a TBM but when it's time to get another, I will be going for a Tiger Tote by Bigfoot, much better cart and $100 cheaper.

I thought about this too, but here's the kicker - it has to be skinny enough to be pushed through gate in the fence. It's a standard chain link fence, with the regular "1 person" opening. A beach cart is to wide. :(

Hey, yeah. Thats exactly what I'm looking for.

You built that? How much did it cost? Did you have to weld anything?

I paid a buddy a 12pck of bud light to build it for me. I drew it up in ACAD and he welded it. I will call another friend and see if he has any in the works...
