why is it called a waterbox if its just a muffler?

i looked on oem site for my waterbox. i couldnt find it untill i sall it listed as muffler.... weird?? why call it waterbox whats it do anyways?

It uses water and baffles to muffle the sound of the exhaust,so technically its both a muffler and a waterbox.

It keep's water from flowing back into the engine it also muffles the motor. Try and dump the water out of one and you can see what I am saying.

An aftermarket one or a modified stock box flow's better. less restriction for better performance and they are alot louder also.

Don't worry about it ,they are pretty much all the same,as long as it is not too loud ride it.

Most aftermarket boxes (at least the ones without baffles) don't really prevent water from flowing back into the engine... One more reason to blip the throttle a couple times after you're done riding and the ski is out of the water.

A stock box is fine as long as you have a pipe. Most pipes are designed for stock waterboxes. Many race pipes have smaller stingers in order to make up open aftermarket box.
