Getting Bored, SN & 66e

I traded a large sitdown trailer for a smaller double stand up trailer & a 1990 SJ with a bad stator/ flywheel. While I wait on my RN parts to come back from JetWorks I think I am going to try and get my 66e into this SN:scratchchin:. I won't be scared to do a little hacking on the SN.

I dont have the motor and ski together at this point so I cannot see how well the 66e will fit. I read that the rear mounts perfectly in the stock location with the correct coupler alignment and everything. Its the front mounts that need to be relocated forward sa few inches. Is this in fact true?

I am really counting on the stock exhaust fitting in place, even if i need to remove the liner from the hood. I will work on routing the exhaust out of the side or something.

Yes you will just have to glass in new mounting locations for the front motor mounts. I highly doubt you will get that pipe in there without serious modification I think the pipe will require you to cut out a section of the side of the hull including bond line but I am not sure. Check out the pics of a pipe superramjet has in an SXR for size reference. Somebody has a stock 800 with stock exhaust in a blaster but I forget who.

Yeah, its blaster800 I think who has the motor in a blaster. I have no idea if it will even begin to work. I thought I would pull the 650 and try an fit the beast in there over the weekend for grins.

I will post pictures of my issues; many i'm sure.

Yup, rear mounts fit perfect, glass in new front mounts ''easy'' , bump out side as necessary ''see pic '' go for it

Hmmm, I wonder how much bumpin' would be needed. I know the Blaster tapers down near the rear. I wouldn't even be thinking about this, but I feel bad for the 66e and I have spare glass & resin from my foothold install.

WaveDemon, do you know for a fact the exhaust won't clear?

I would consider it if it doesn't require breaching the bondline. I nice "bulge" wouldn't bother me but an abrubt change in the bondline would look like hell I think. I don't have much to do this weekend so I may try and check fitment.

I will post pictures soon.

I was able to get the motor set in on saturday and yes, the side needed to be clearenced. It was mainly the seal channel that was in the way. I cut more away than needed in spots......... I didn't have the tools I needed this weekend, as I was working "away" from home. I cut a huge section from the center of the hood so the hood would fit without binding.

I am looking to get about an inch and a half of clearence around the motor. The gas tank will fit with a few inches of manipulation with the heatgun.

There are a few things I am unsure of. What going to happen with the exhaust? Will it be ok to run it right out the rear on the port side w/no waterbox (if I wear earmuffs)?

How to mold the "bulge". I was thinking of taping/ sealing the hole off from the inside, I would have to work through the large cutout on the top of the hood. After sealing off the larger hole in the side (both hood and hull locked together). I could pour foam and then shape to a general bulge shape, then glass over it and chip out the foam leaving a void.

Anyway the motor is huge in this thing (mainly the exhaust) and it looks awesome.

Doesn't look like it will work...what are you going to do with the exhaust outlet?

Do you think I will never get the channel back again? I think if I glass the bulge onto both hood and hull at the same time, then seperate them between the existing sealing plane I will have a perfect form to follow so that the seals will line up once again.

I think the hood seal bulge is do-able, although it will be tough depending on your composite skills. It is hard to tell in the pics but it kind of looks like the exhaust outlet is not far enough over for a new exhaust tube to clear the pump cavity.

Yes, I think the carb will be plenty far from the bottom of the hull when mounted at this angle. I hope to get working on the glass stuff in a few weeks. I just got my cylinder & carbs back from JetWorks and have to get my RN going and Turfed before this weekend. I still need to buy a long aluminium tube for the exhaust, drill/tap some new mount blocks, rebuild midshaft (its tough to turn)..... more exopy resin, I will need it.

Not wanting to buy a new prop, will the stock stainless 701 Raider impeller work well, or not so much?
