Do I need to sell my 66e?

I have been hanging onto my clean 66e for a year now, hoping to install this winter. I am starting to get the impression that this conversion is never going to be an easy, resonable option. I have read the swap is not that impressive.

I would like more power this season and am thinking of selling my 66e and having some porting done and maybe a set of quality reeds. Would this be a good step? I am curently running a limited factory pipe and 35cc domes (185psi) on an otherwise stock 701 62T/61X

Thanks for the input,

Go ported big bore with the domes cut properly, and get it tuned properly and you'll love it. 4mm stroker is a nice setup too, but you still have to get it tweaked properly.

Even 10mm strokers can run like crap if not tuned.

I heard the 66e is

-Heavy
-You will need to many extra & additional parts $$$
-engine mounts/pipe/manifolds etc

But I think there are different opinions

I would not touch a stroker 62t engine. The cranks will set you back quite a bit and it takes know how to properly set them up and keep them running as they should. To get the most out of the 66e you really need bigger carbs, higher compression (185-210), total loss ignition (to help it rev faster AND junking the OEM CDI that has a horrid timing curve on it) and a dry pipe (still up in develpoment)

There will be some new parts comming out for the 66e soon that will make it a more practical option. IMO, after riding a few 66e platforms, it really does need a lighter crank. The power is definatly there but you have to keep the rpms up all the time to keep it on the power. 62t's make ok power in comparison but they rev so much faster I think you could do more on them from a freestyle stand point. A responsive motor is MORE usable than crazy power.

Superjett is right (hurts to say), but a big bore ported engine with 44's hits very nice and is a reliable package. If you did a TBM charging flywheel and enhancer on top of that you will be very happy for some time. If you don't have $$ to throw around at the moment I would take the safe route and build a mild (no lamey's) 62t motor.

If you have an unlimited budget and patience I would still do the 66e platform. That powerplant is almost there.........:firedevil:

The 66e will make more power than a 62t motor for sure. AND it will be cheaper to build a proper 66e than it would be to build a high dollar billet cylinder/stroker set up. Those engine can be in the 12,000-15,000 range  You can do a complete built 66e for 1/2 that using mostly OEM parts.

It is true that it does weigh more, but coming from a guy that has been on both the EME1000 and WDK 1200, the extra weight is not noticeable. Those skis feel much lighter than 2min boats I have ridden w/ stroker lameys.

OK... I think I will keep my 66e and see what developes, in the mean time, whats next?

What mod or combination of mods would give me a boost of power at this point. As stated earlier, I have a '08 SJ with B-Pipe and Flow Control Valve, Riva Girdled head @ 185psi, I also removed the choke plates (wish I didn't do that) from the stock 38's which have been jetted for the B-pipe

I would rather keep the next string of mods under $1000 as I am buying a property/lot soon.

I was thinking of having my cylinder ported and leaving the crank/cases in the hull. Would buying a aluminium flywheel or lightened stock be a good move?

Thanks again,

Get your cylinders ported, you will love it. Or just get the 66e in the hull and rock it for a season and see how you like it. It seems like a better platform to build off of.

I would go with a lightweight charging flywheel like the TBM next, then maybe start looking at cylinder options. There are some great deals to be found on cylinders lately.

When porting is it beter to have your casses done as well? Seems I have read it is not that important. With my current mods will the improvement be significant?

I've actually heard really good reviews about chuckies intake mods w/ no porting. I'm not sure if it's a secret or what the pricing is on that. Pat (chacingdaylight) has that + advent and he has a great set up with a mostly stock long block.

I think you meant to post in this thread: http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/22925

The length that thread has been active pales in comparison to how long they have been trying to perfect the 66E. But yeah you guys keep harping on me if you like .I have noticed the trend here is to build a ski, wreck it ,trash it, blow all to hell and then repeat, either that or build it and ride it twice and sell it.Sorry I don't follow your trends ,when I build a ski I keep it and I ride it for a long long time, what I don't do is continue to rebuild it and screw with it forever.I was out riding last year while your ski was sitting in pieces in a box somewhere :laugh2:

Whats your point exactly? Yeah it would be nice to the have time to complete all those and you know what, eventually I will, but the truth of the matter is I run a jetski -atv repair shop, most of my time is spent repairing other peoples screwups. The catch 22 is this ,if I were to devote massive amounts of my time to my builds then customers boats-atv's don't get fixed. Then the bills don't get paid .Not to mention there will be no money for parts for these builds.I am sure Tom 21 knows of which I speak, most of you not in the ski repair business would not have a clue.So yeah its a dilemma, one which a lot of unemployed people would love to have right about now,the really funny thing is that while ya'll are talking smack several of you don't even have running skis ,isn't that right Yamanube and Wavedemon?
