Question regarding RN midshaft into a 650 SN Carrier

I know the threads are larger for the RN midshaft where the coupler threads on versus a SN, but are they the same diamater at the portion that is pressed into the bearing inside the carrier?

I want to:

Use my 650 housing to insert a RN midshaft into so I can run a buillitt coupler. Do able, or are the internal bearning sizes different?

Please don't speculate..... If you know, please share the wealth, if you don't well, make sure you state that you aren't sure at least. :wavey:

The RN and 94+ SN midshafts are different from the 93 and prior SN. I know this for a fact. I don't need to check a parts number.

What I am talking about is the inside diameter of the bearing(s) that the midshaft presses into, or either the diameter on the midshaft where it presses into the bearing(s)

Hey hey! good thread, wish there was an answer because I just got my shinny new paper weights from ada that dont fit my midshaft either.... What ever came of this?

hmmmm.

my buddy has UMI kawi style billet couplers on a 90-93 midshaft.

not sure what the thread size is though so that doesnt help much i guess.

if it's a 90-93 shaft, I doubt it. Someone probably switched it or replaced it at some point with a new version due to failure.

Shaft are the same, it's just the threads are smaller on the 90-93. Swap in a 94+ and you are set to swap couplers.

I have 2 early SN mid-shaft setups.
1 has the smaller threads the other has the larger threads but both are mounted in the pre 93 carrier. Side by side with a RN shaft they are identical other than the thread size on the one.

If thats the case, you just need a later model shaft tube.

so maybe you just answered your own question?

i know it sucks but since you need to pull the motor and mishaft to swap couplers anyway it shouldnt be that big of a deal to swap the shaft itself out

the midshafts are the same diameter where they press into the housing. the thread size is different.

so, to answer your question, YES, you can put a RN midshaft into a SN housing to use the larger-threaded billet coupler.
