I got a 'new' used MSD Enhancer in the mail today, so I thought I 'd go ahead and swap it in to make sure it works. Got the unit all wired in, and tried to start it. It didn't start at first, but then it fired up. I wanted to hear it run freely but it's cold and nasty outside and my wife's car is in the basement so I got the idea to just pull the ass-end of the machine to the entry door to the basement. I fired it up and gave it a couple little blips of the throttle, then shut it off. I looked to the back of the boat and on the cart and the ground it looked like an oil tanker exploded. I must have forced a bunch of residual (and extremely oily!) water out the exhaust, and it went all over the entry door, on the floor, on the cart, on my shoes, on my pants and was still dripping out the exhaust outlet. Dang I have never had that much come out and I have started it in the past few days or so in swapping the old MSD with an oem cdi. I finally got it all cleaned up, but geez I didnt' expect a 5 minute job to turn into 45 minutes.

Hee Hee. Same thing happened to me last year. Spent all winter modding up my son's SN and couldn't wait to just hear it turn over. Stuck the ass end of it out the cellar door, started it, and it was smoking like a bastard from all the fogging oil and the wind just blew everything back in. The needle was sticking in the carb and all this raw fuel and sludge just spewed out. Smoke detectors went off and woke up the whole family. :ugh:

I have never started my ski in the basement. Well we dont have basements in texas.

I have had the crap go on the concrete in my shop. Not too bad though.

My SJ is in my kitchen, but I've never started it in there. I can't believe THAT much sludge came out, that's crazy.

I was working on a seapoo one day and don't know what happened but it is like what you said. It backfired out the exhaust and I bet there was 100 gallons of thick sludge type oil that blew out all over the garage. It covered the wall the floor and all of the tools in the tool box... Of course there were 4 or 5 drawers open. Just NASTY

If you are asking me for pics, sorry, none available - I was too busy muttering 4-letter words and grabbing for the rags and mineral spirits to get all that oily water off the door and frame and my shoes...

I feel your pain. I've filled the entire house with smoke from my Sxi before. BTW where was Jake to help clean it up. Thats what our kids are for, right? To help us out when we screw up.
