Smallest exhaust ever?

So I'm going to try and squeeze my 701 into this 550 hull im building. Only problem is width. There is none!

So what is the smallest, or perhaps I should say Narrowest exhaust ever made for a 701? Surely not stock? Right now I have a blaster mod pipe, and I know that sure as hell wont fit...

Or does anyone know of any wierd combo pipes that are small that will work like using a kawi 650 pipe or something else?

Thanks in advance.

I'vr used the Kawi 650 pipe in a SN, and therte is quite a bit of room. I also used the 650 Kawie pipe with a 650SJ engine in my X2 and had plenty of room. Then again I fit a 701 with a TNT chamber in the X2 hull, so there was plenty of room.
Have you mocked it up in there to see just how much room you can get?

I have not mocked it up yet.... I'm about to go pick up a spare 62t block now. But I have seen someone else who mocked one up and never went through with the project (they werent good fabbers). The exhaust was the main limiting factor. The 550 engine bay is a good 4" narrower than the 650 or x2 though. And i only have perhaps the largest of all the pipes made currently.... lol

What all do you need to get a 650 pipe to work? What kind of manifold and head pipe do you use?

Here is the stock X2/SX pipe in a 550. (I wouldnt go out of my way to run this pipe, it sucks ass)

Here is a thread I started a year or so ago, when one of my friends was going to do a kawi 650 to 550 conv ski. Some info around getting westcoast and coffman exhausts in there.

Yea but the actual cylinder diameter is a bit narrower on the 650 motor than a 701, and the B head pipe is wide as hell.... not so on the kawi pipe. Show me pictures of how you did your 701 x2 and where did you get your conversion coupler? I was planning on just bringing a 550 coupler in to a machine shop.

I knew the K650 is narrower and the 701 will give you less room to work with, just figured the stock 650 exhaust "looks" like there is enough room to compinsate for the added yamy offset. My lightweight X2 was built to use a yamaha XL700 midshaft, blaster driveshaft, and it has a 144 pump. So there is no conversion anything in it, its all off the shelf stuff. The motor mount's..umm.....mount's were installed to utilize the 701. The bulkhead to mount the midshaft is moved back approx 4".

ah... well damn. Eitherway I cant think of a way to get a K650 fpp chamber or head pipe to work without major cutting and rewelding.

As for all that stuff in your x2.... thats more or less what I'm doing step by step to this 550 hull... Except I'm going to weld up my own tubular bedplates.

Assuming I do indeed use a 701 instead of a 750.

The 550 cant be much narrower than an FX1 can it? I guess if it came down to it I would run a 650sx pipe, the kerker stainless chambers where pretty narrow and could be dented if needed.

not sure. I have never ever seen a fx1 in my life. Im not that lucky.....

Yea but how would I get a 650 pipe onto a yama engine?! lol

That was an option.... But really the problem isnt the side of the hull but the lip that the hood sits on, and I'm not really in the mood to try to mold a outward concaved lip.

look up gorilla's cheater 650 pipe on his fx-1 and squarenose.

he utilizes a factory pipe manifold and a stock 650 kawi pipe with the laserman mod to the cooling setup.

he claims it works very well and is hundreds less than a b pipe

just a thought no idea how it would effect the motor, but what about milling the exhaust manifold down a little and milling the cylinder a little bit, or if you milled it crooked, more off the back than the front of the manifold you might get some angle and the pipe closer to the motor to get it to work. but like i said, no idea how that would effect the motor, and potentially ruin the cylinders and the manifold if it doesn't work for you.

If that 650 FPP fits the mod pipe should fit. The Blaster mod is narrower. It doesn't come close to touching the side of the hull and a limited pipe will rub on some sj's. Clearing the gas tank and hood is another story.
