freestylegeek rolls and backflip attempt (November 2008)

Well, I finally got my wife to run the camera for a little bit today. I just installed my -3.25 Xmetal turnplate and bushings, so now I'm at -10.5" from stock. I haven't had any footage of myself all year. I learned more in the 10 minutes I spent studying these clips than I did all year! :)

Roll # 1
YouTube - barrel roll # 1

Roll # 4
YouTube - barrel roll # 4

Roll # 5
YouTube - barrel roll # 5

And, the backflip attempt (forgive the extreme close-up)
YouTube - backflip (almost there)

Here's what I learned:
- Even though the rolls are all the way around, I'm barely moving! I'm going like what, 7 mph?!?! I've got to put some boogie into those things!
- Right before that backflip, I tried one where I stayed up on the bars (instead of hanging way off the back). What a HUGE difference! I really think that if I put a little more time into it, and actually planned on getting around (spotting my landing), I might be able to nose one in. That's all my goal is - to nose them in. I don't care if I sink down to my shoulders, but ride out of it.

Looks really good! What is your motor setup? And thats with trim right?

793cc 8mm x 81.5mm Lamey stroker, 190 psi, MSD total loss (single coil digital), Xscream modified RIVA intake and 46mm mikuni's, Xscream modified 'b' pipe, solas impros 13/16 3mm cutback, 85.5mm SJ nozzle, 26.5º CATS [trim], 88lb converted squarenose hull.

This motor is not ported for low end. I can't wait to have Chuckie give some love to the cylinder!

How do you think your motor compares to a +5mm X 86mm bore (850cc) ADA cylinder ported by Art at jetworks with Full Spec setup 48mm's modified b pipe with MSD enhancer

If my calculations are correct your at 800 cc's but I was wondering why an 8mm vs a 5 with a bigger bore? Just curious and I am still thinking.

Longer stroke has better torque, though the difference between a 5 and 8 is not going to be much. He went from a stock stroke big bore to a long stroke stock bore.

Your to the point now to get the EME pipe.. That with some Chuckie luv would rock you around on the BF I bet.

I forget, how short is your hull?
Looking good geek!

If only I could run a 5 gallon tank with the EME, I'd consider it. I really think it's all about form. Yeah, a billet PV Xscream 800 with a Mag pump would help, but I think if I get my form and timing right, I can nose them in.

My hull is -2.5"

That's a tough one because I've never ridden a jetworks set-up. When Chuckie measured my cylinder this spring, he wanted to mill 1mm off the bottom, lowering the ports by 1mm. That's quite a bit! That would boost the bottom end a little. I would think an 850cc low-end ported jetworks motor would probably hit off idle a little harder, but the skinny bore 8mm strokers have pretty big torque. Mine has 1mm longer rods than normal 8mm strokers, so the midrange is really where it's the strongest (right before the pump leaves the water, the engine is making really good power).

Take your time thinking - I'm not going anywere. :)

AWESOME MATT !!!!

Barrels are sick !

On the back flip ! looks good, if you dont mind a comment, you got into the flip and then looked back... as soon as you leave lip, you want to look where your going.. at least that helps me... head goes, and then you.. you can also bend knees a little more, so your lower to the ski... crap in the tray. lol
then when you hit lip and pop you will have your tourso more strait up so you can look back...
Hopefully i make sense here.

vids look great ! :fing02:

That means something coming from "Mr. builder"!
Thanks Tom.

That 6lb SR-71 hood I bought from Stylin' Steve is definitely helping!

yes, steve has all the good parts, he's kicking around buying a q8 next. You should talk him in to a ride on that eme 1000, i bet youd get your flip. Its an amazing running ski. We've only got a couple more rides before we put them up for the year. Will you be at daytona this year?

YES PLEASE!!!
Flood me with tips! I have no idea about my set-up wave, my timing, my posture, where I'm looking...
You're giving me gold here my man! Thanks!

Basiacally, I want to stay close to the bars, but toss my head back before the pump leaves the water, right? Does it look like I have enough juice to get one nosed in? Patrick and Jeremy both said it takes at least 800cc and a 70lb hull (or lighter) to pull one off...?

Thanks for the tips Pete. I'll try them out this weekend - unless there's waves on the big lake!

Yeah, and your exhuast setup is different now also so that changed the tone too.

Big TIME!!!
I'm running much dryer now. The old 772cc motor was an unbored, un-stingered 'b' pipe, running bottom screw cracked, middle screw open about 3/4, top closed.

The new set up is an xscream modified (50mm) manifold and headpipe, plus the stinger mod. Pipe screws are now bottom cracked, middle closed, top closed. HUGE difference in sound and response!
