So i have been researching fiberglass.

Im gonna use an old rideplate for a mold. Now i understand you cover it in aluminum foil and lay down your layers of glass. But before i put down my first layer on the foil should i spray the foil with anything or when the mold dries it will peel right off the aluminum foil?

Its not rocket science....here is one I made real quick, got bored one night and wanted to try it out, used an old plate, some fuel line, cling wrap and Pam. Its not really think enough (IMO) to use or even finish cut yet it was just a trial run. Maybe one day this winter I will get bored and finish it up....or maybe not. Right now its not really worth my time, Dcut stocker works well, if I really wanted a cool composite plate I would probably just pay a professional for theirs.

pulled the tunplate mold off,it turned out great, was to thin(3 layers) but it was just an expirement.I just made a superman handhold for the back of the ski,it is drying also right now.I did 4 layers on it,i will probably go back and add a few more once it dries.

Mold

It is cheaper and easier to buy the part you want than to make a mold. Being that I spent a lot of time around mold-maker Mark at 24/7, I got pretty good info for you...buy what you want!!!

If you want to make a mold, however, you need mold release. it dries like a saran wrap film that is washed off when you are done. I wouldnt bank on aluminum foil for anything except a hat like someone said earlier.

i layed plastic sheeting over a stock plate and layed it up with cheapie resin from home depot. use mat its easier to make a mold with. after it cured about 80% i pulled the plate and plastic let it finish curing, sanded smooth and put another coat over to make the mold surface glossy. let that cure for a few days before continuing on to laying the rideplate. i just used car wax as mold release, layered it on there and let it dry. i used 2layers nytex with 2 layers thin cloth with carbon fiber on the back for extra strength. let it cure to about 80% then popped the plate! takes a few screwdrivers and careful prying. ive beat my plate for months thats was origonally made as a prototype!
