Electrical Advice Needed - Intermittent Spark - 701 Superjet

Hey Guys....I need some advice.
Here is the problem....
Ski starts, runs fine for a short time then all of the sudden cuts off while riding. Turns over fine but won't restart and there is no spark. After it sits for a bit the spark comes back and will start, only to do the same thing again.
Where would you start to trouble shoot?
From experience out there do CDI's or Stators have intermittent spark problems? I am leaning towards it being the coil but maybe someone can narrow it down for me.
Thanks!

Yes. What you got is a classic symptom. Works when cold, not when hot.

Well, I know coils do, anyways. Not sure about stators.

try removing the plug boots and stripping some of the insulation back..grab the wires with some pliers and tug on them..chances are they are broke inside the insulation..i think its pretty rare for the coil itself to go bad

JM113, let us know what it is when you find out. I'm having a similar issue. Started happening after about 30 minutes riding, (ski running great)spark came back after about 10 minutes swimming it in. Gradually got worse. Now the ski stops after about 2 minutes riding and spark reappears the following day. Leads and boots are all good. I'm guessing coil?? or CDI??

Stator

It's fine until it heats up, and then it starts having problems. Classic.

Stators should be easy to test.

Check the resistance between the 4 wires when it's cold. 2 wires should go to 1 coil and 2 to the other. Run the engine till it dies and then check the resistance again.

Post your results.

What the resistance and the compression should be, I dunno. Those readings are much like porn. 'I can't define porn, but I know it when I see it.'
(Anyone know which judge said that famous line?)

PS: Don't forget the compression test!

Did anyone find out what their problem was. Mine is havign the exact same issue right now also. I have a spare CDI to try, i am going to go that route this weekend. Otherwise i will need to buy a spare stator also.

CDI was bad

The problem ended up being a bad MDS enhancer. We put in a stock CDI and the problem is gone. Tested the enhancer on another ski and it did the same things so it was 100% the CDI.
