:thinking::thinking::thinking:
Sunk my ski yesterday.

Yesterday: Turned the ski upside down and hand cranked the motor to get most of the water out. Tried to start it with the plugs out. Bendix would not engage. Dumped oil in the Cylinders and WD40 down the carbs. Hand turned the motor to work the oil through it.

Today: Pulled the motor. turned it upside down and cranked it by hand (got out more water). Replaced Bendix. Put it back together. Started the process of trying to get it fired up. (It came pretty close a dozen times). Finally, the battery dies. I hook it to my car and I keep trying to get it fired (2 or 3 more times of pulling plugs, blowing it out, trying to start it). It gets really really close. Then it won't turn over. Pull the plugs, it turns over fine (fast and smooth). Put the plugs in, it won't turn. Pull the plugs again. It turns fast and great, put my finger over one hole and it slows wayyyyyy down. put two fingers over and it stops. (This is with my car battery now). Recharge my jetski battery (same thing, finger over the hole stops the motor). Try another battery (same thing). Try to jump the celenoid. (same thing). :1zhelp:

A finger over the holes stops it...WTF????????????? I can't try to start it because it won't turn with the plugs in. :1zhelp:

help...my motor is dying. :confused:

Well don't give up yet. Pull all your cables and make sure they are nicely connected with no corrosion. Do the cables get hot when trying to crank it?

Ding ding ding we have a winner!!!!!!!!!! Nothing will fry a starter quicker than long repeated usage without proper cool down cycles in between.

Cables are warm... battery is warm....

Sounds like the starter.... Putting a new one in first thing tomorrow. Any other suggestions to look at if that's not it.

it's either the starter or the connection broski, there isn't much else to cause that, unless by some freak thing the relay is causing it, which i would doubt. I'd check the connections at it though.

It keeps trying to turn, just slows wayyyyyyyy down to almost a stop. Wouldn't a connection either be on or off?

I've used this guys starters for years and years with no problems... It looks like a fried this one. (I turned it a looooooooooooooooooooooooooong time)

so, a fried starter will turn just as fast, but won't have enough torque to turn the motor when there is compression? :sad2:

Yep its all about amperage and once the brushes are toast the starter cannot get the required amperage to function properly,kind of like kinking a fuel line on a ski.

My sx650 did this when i first got it. turned over fast with out plugs and nothing with the plugs, i even conected the car battery (with booster cables) and still nothing. i went and brought a new battery and it fired right up and has done ever since, it just needed a good battery conected right to the cables

DJ check all your negative connections again also, sand them and make sure especially at the battery post it's clean. Get it going!

what's the final verdict DJ? I have the same problem. It came to a head when I tried a log roll friday, but I just thought the battery was toast. I guess I'll order a new starter today...
