Trying to get my Jetinetics TL setup and I got a little more info than I had before. Just trying to get some input on where to set my static timing. I want more power but my first goal is reliability, I wont be doing any WOT runs but dont want it on the edge of deto. I want it reliable enough to let a friend ride it and not have to worry about him blowing it up.
Motor is a stock stroke, 86mm 62t.
The ignition retards from static timing at 1*/1,000RPMs starting at 3,000RPMs. Robert at jetinetics said a very loose suggestion would be 18*-20* advance.

1 Degree retard per 1000RPM doesn't give you much room to work with on the bottom.
At your likely RPM ceiling of 7000 RPM, you're only pulling 4 degrees off static. That's not good. :(
You want to be in the neighborhood of 12-15 degrees at your RPM limit (on pumpgas). That puts you at 16-19 static.
MSD's typically pull about 15-20 degrees off the total, so that you can run 30-35 degrees static.

Don't take what I say for truth & fact. Please talk to a builder about this, like Harrison said.

if you feel like the engine setup is not on the edge now, go for 23 degrees static, But do check with a timing light after the install to double check your at 23 below 3000 RPMs.

Keep in mind I am not installing this system for monster HP numbers. I am installing it because the flywheel is SIGNIFICANTLY lighter than a OEM or lightened OEM and the whole setup cost me less than what putting together an OEM ignition and not even in the same ballpark as an OEM setup with lightweight flywheel or MSD TL setup.

As of right now I have never run this system, I bought a used shortblock for my superjet swapped my stock motor and stock electrical into my FX1 and was in need of an ignition. I got the whole setup for $150 and just looking for a reliable setup with a little more power than an OEM setup. 23* might be a little to radical for me due to the small amount of timing I am able to pull out at higher RPMs??

I think I'd take the engine builders advice on this one. I mean teamscream does make some reliable screamers I have 1

You should be ok if you don't get too crazy with a lot of compression, not any worse than what some of the guys here advancing timing with MSD enhancers... Just remember, with a lighter flywheel the engine won't lug down the engine and make the timing stay advanced.

With 165lbs compression on pump gas, ported cylinder, with dry pipe, I run 25 degress static, retard at 5k, max retard 9 degrees (so about 16 degrees total timing at 8k).

I also run fat though (155H, 90L).

That is a whole lot more retard than what the Jetinetics is capable of.
