Sxr Hood???

Just got a SXR and heard that the hood lets in alot of water...i saw that blowsion has a block off plate but does this restrict air flow, i can make my own block off plate but read that the kit has you block off the hole in the front of that hood and says and has you compensate for that somehow...any truth to this.. my ski is bonestock besides tbm hood hooks and side sponsons, i mostly ride lakes and do some jumping and subs but will be trying some new stuff this season...any other suggestions as far as mods go for my first season with my sxr...

The only time i get water in is when i do a fountain...and some ( not too much ) when a sub is done with the ski...besides that on regular rides ( lake, jumbs, turns ) no water whould be going in ! Check your hood seal as well. ....as for mods look below...

It's really easy to cut another hole in the back of the hood. There is already an opening on the rear left corner, and you just dremmel a similar shape to the rear right corner.

Another thing about that hood is the holes for the latch are sometimes drilled inaccurately. Just one or two mm can be the difference in your hood popping off after a sub, so hoodstraps are a pretty good investment.

You can glass over or even ductape the front hole, and for your stock engine you don't even have to open up the back of the hood. I ran mine that way for a month and didn't notice any difference.

I just ordered the blowsion....and heard good stuff !! is there something about them i don't know??

They're not bad by any means, I just took them out of the box and was like "ugh...they got me for 30 bucks on something that I could have made for less than 10..." I felt if I made my own they would have been heavier duty and cheaper.

ya my buddy did the same on a stock engine, we switched back and forth from my boat (stock, when I hadn't put the blockoff on yet) and his (stock, with the block off but no extra hole in the back right). Neither of us could tell a difference. We both ended up cutting the hole anyway tho haha.

I ended up blocking the front hole with shiny aluminum HVAC tape. This tape sticks and molds really well and doesn't hold water like other tapes. Then I dremeled and cut out all the inside foam blocks on the underside of my hood and also cut the opening that Zerfman34 talks about above. Then I added some new breathing hoses on the inside of my hood to put air down at the bottom of the engine compartment and then took an "Awl" and punched like three small holes in the shiny aluminum tape in the front to let a little air in. The engine gets plenty of air and less water gets in after subs. But I only have 1 500 GPH bilge and I have to wait a few seconds before I can do the next trick so I'm going to put in another bilge. I like the set up and think it works well.
