X-2 hole in stock ride plate, why?

What is the purpose it the circle cut out hole in a stock X-2 ride plate? It is right below the reduction nozzle on my 87 X-2. Have been pondering this question for a while now...

It probably reduces the lift in the back by a bit, and helps it to turn. Just my guess.

I always thought it was to act as a brake when you let off the gas...but thats just a guess.

damn...15mph is fast on sand!!

I just can't wait to ride this thing for the first time in a few weeks, even though I'll be coming off my modded sj, the X2 just looks too fun
