Driving time to Pismo

Personally, I tow like Enzo...but am begging for a ticket...at least up here around Sacramento. BEWARE: I-5 south out of the downtown area in Sacramento to just south of Elk Grove is a HUGE speed trap and they just LUV to nab them some fast trailer towers (Huge fine).

I'd also suggest you stay on I-5 south to Kettleman City, and the cut across to Paso Robles, then south on 101/1 to Arroyo Grande/Grande Avenue Exit...then west the end/beach antrance for first-timers. Gong anywhere near the bay area as goggle maps/mapquest suggest is insane as far as I'm concerned...especially on a weekend (unless you LIKE parking lots). I-5 south to 156 and over/across to the Gilroy area isn't too bad and a nice option if traffic is heavy on I-5 south.

There are some nice little short cuts - my personal fav when traffic is cruddy on a Friday/Sunday nights:

South of Coalinga on I-5, take the W. Jayne Avenue exit, go about 2 miles, tirn left on S. Sutter about 2.5 miles to Hwy 33, to the hwy 41 junction...then go right on 44 out to Paso Robles. It may not look like much on the map but these are nicely paved country roads you can haul azzz on, regardless of what you're towing, with no cops around for miles (well, you *might want to watch it around the prison a little).

Then again, coming home on Sunday, I-5 north can be a zoo too....easy fix: Hop on one of the many country roads (like Avenal Cutoff road/198, or 145 from I-5 over to 99 north).

Hope that helps,
LP

Thanks for the info on the shortcuts. I was planning on staying on the main roads so I don't get lost. Might take a little more time but getting lost can take a lot of time.

Forgot to mention, we won't make it to the actual event because of school. we leave the 22nd and after picking up our buddy expect to arrive the 24th. we're so bummed that we won't get to meet some of you guys and watch you tear it up. i guess that's why they make videos, eh?

well get there the 24th and we leave on the 28th, probably mid day to late afternoon. it would be so chill to have someone show us the ropes of surf riding. our 3rd buddy has some experience, but ours only consists of lake riding

That's the great thing about Pismo...even if there's 120,000 people camped on the beach, all you have to do is look for a ski either in the water or on the shore and you can find someone to ride with or someone you're looking for as everyone else is there to ride the dunes...and I usually hear at least once over the course of the weekend "Man...I brought the wrong toy" while they drool over how much fun we're having and how non-crowded the surf is.
