why mask off anything. overspray is cool!

i bought this sn sj this pass sunday. it's going to be my future daughter in laws. this guy loved to paint over everything. hood seal, turf, pump, hood brackets...didn't matter.

i going to pull it apart and do some major detailing. motor is coming out too. looks like crap but it has a fresh top end, pro tec pipe, prop, plate (with a chuck missing) i'm going to shorten it, bars and new battery.

several big runs in the clear so alot of colorsanding/buffing.

strange thing is i removed the handlepole bracket and it's yellow under it. i guess he put it back together and thought fogging everything would look awesome.

the removed the whole stock bilge set up. plugged the line and ran a rule.
anyone have a spare bilge set up?

and i got a sweet trailer with shag carpet runners on the deal!

if he dodnt spend the time masking off, think how much time he spent sanding:dunce:
paint might blow off with a blow gun!
goog luck

thanks shonuff for the bilge. this picture, well has dumb ass wrote all over it. notice the spelling of "skis". sweet huh?

it wouldn't be much of a problem but they cleared over it so i can not just peel it off. the registration numbers down the side are about 5 inches tall and they also cleared over them. yamaha is across the hood on both sides and ofcourse.. it's cleared! i may repaint the hood and part of the handlepole.

Its so much fun buying used skis (oops I mean Skies) and laughing at some of the shiot people have done to them! I got a RN last year that had BLACK RTV EVERYWHERE, and I mean EVERYWHERE, it took days to remove it, arround turf, hood seal, pole bracket, pump, intermediate, rails and all, must have been like 10 tubes of the shiot!!!! It was aggervating but I couldnt help but laugh my azz off.

tape is overrated... he he he..

You might want to try stripping a section with a razor blade. My ski I got for my son was painted and cleared (it looked like nice paint) but I stripped the entire ski with a razor blade in about 15 minutes. If the paint is that loose underneath one chip and it will shed it's skin like a snake

a few more pics.

done!! found quite a few things wrong with this ski while pulling it apart. such as instead of pulling the ebox with the motor they simply cut the stator wires, then twisted them back together and wrapped them in black electrical tape when they installed it. this was also done to the start/stop wires when they r&r'ed the handlepole.

they removed the chin pad brackets and filled in the holes so i had to make a couple brackets. they had no water running to the stinger on the pipe so the coupler between the chamber and headpipe was toast. luckily one off a 650sx fits great. the hose from the stinger had a few blisters inside but it's usable.long hose is soft in one spot but ok.

they used anti seize on every bolt on the motor. and yes it does have a fresh top end which i'm sure ran just long enough before the coupler went up in smoke.not too excited about the chamfering job on the ports either.

the colorsanding and buffing took most of my time.i enjoy doing it.
all in all i think i spent close to less than $75 on the turf, hood seal, grips... evrything else i had laying around.

i paid $750 for the ski plus trailer. so it's got $825 in it.

you made those chinpad brackets?

dang it!

I had time today so I drug parkers old pole down, and drilled thru those rivets, the OEM brackets are in a ziplock in my passenger seat to mail at work tomorrow.
