Foam - defoam - refoam.... why?

right on bro. it's definitely a big project, so wait until you have to do it.

my thought is to go with how Kawi did the SXR (runabout style foam) that way you never have to worry about wet foam ever again.

pssst... my secret source for foam blocks... Tractor Supply Company. They gave me as many polystyrene foam blocks as i could fit in my truck... they are used to transport their utility trailers - stacked atop one another on semi-trucks.

I started thinking and I think I may have been wrong about the weight of the water in the foam...

If you use 3.5 cubic feet of foam in a superjet refoaming then you put in mostly air voids as the foam expands to 25-30x its own liquid volume. 3.5cf x 7.4 cf per gallon = about 26 gallons of foam which would mean that about 25 gallons of possible water (this would never happen though). BUTTTT.... that would mean about If 10% of those air voids get saturated then you are looking at about 20 pounds of water... (2.5 gallons water = about 20 pounds). I imagine that this is possible... I am going to setup a little experiment using a 2 litter bottle at home to see how quickly the water absorbs into my 3lb 2 part foam I got from us composites....

I will pour enough foam to let the bottle fill up 2/3 full of foam... then pour some water on top to fill it up after the foam has had time to set-up... I will also poke a few holes in the bottom to see how long it takes the water to settle through the foam and figure it out time wise per foot how long it took.

I have yet to begin to understand why yamaha would make a design like this.... especially for a boat that states "race performance" on the side....

Frosty- thanks for the tip on the foam from tractor supply... I will look this thread up again when I'm ready to get dirty again!

You guys rule... this site is great

What's blue boards?

Sheets of housing insulation, also found in pink. Basically same stuff as Frosty got but you have to pay for it. Also you could use some sort of void to take up space in the tray area so when you fill it with foam there is less foam needed. Like a pop bottle, at least this is what I plan on using along with packaging peanuts.
