Superjet Turnplate

Hey guys does anyone make a shortened turn (-1",-2") plate that can be used with stock superjet steering?

Cheers Mat

I don't know of any that is made for stock setups. With that one you will need an after market setup.

The stock one has a stud that sticks through the middle not a hole.

Just cut your own down. You can make your steering as much as -4 inches shorter by using straight bars and chopping your stock turnplate down.

What are the perks of having an aftermarket steering system? Are they easy to install? There is obliviously the bearings etc. that sit under the turn plate, is there any where else that the bearings go in the ski?

its easy to install, but, not sure why its so much better. i did mine for the quicksteer mounting and negative 1 plate

I personally don't like them.. The bearings will go out in time and you have to buy an expensive nut so that the turn plate doesn't loosen up. All that for the incredible low price of $200 plus dollars after everything is purchased. Just so that you can say it has UMI steering... NO thanks a well lubed properly tightned stock setup is lighter and works just as well....

With that said .... I have a UMI setup on my ski.... BUT it was on there when I bought the ski so when it goes out I will sell what is left of the setup so switch back to a stock setup.

Here is a way to make a quick steering setup.. this was my trial version to make sure it would work I did replace the mismatched bolts with stainless hardware later. And the 2nd picture is a stock turnplate with straight bars and stock bars mounted to them to show how far you can move the bars forward if you want to ... those are 4 inches.

Also PM RandalJ1 he has a stock plate with 0* UMI bars that are about 1.5" in. I shortened my stock plate and am running straight bars for a -4" steering setup like speedfreak posted and love it. Mine is as far in as possible, I had to grind one of my bar clamps a bit to clear the steering cable. IMO aftermarket steering is not worth it, mine was free, has no bearings to go out and is easily replaced. The only problem is I need to find a new way to mount my pad. (the plate is also now cut down and cleaned up)

On that note, what aftermarket poles (if any) can use the stock steering setup?

I also remember talking to WDK and they said they did a test run (or limited run) of aftermarket plates that fit the stock setup. He wasnt sure if he had any around still and it didnt sound like they where making more but it may be worth a call.

i agree the umi set up is a pain in the arse it works better than stock at the beginning but after a few rides it is the same as stock with the exeption of shortened turn plate i am thinking of trying the jetski solutions set up with the nylon washer all his stuff is good cant see why this would be any different
any one try this set up?

YEP THE NYLON WASHER WORKS OUT GREAT. It replaces the bearing. It saved my UMI and I also replaced the nut with a split set collar like TBM sells now I have no problems with the UMI.:beerchug:

The only problem I see with shortening the stock turnplate and moving the bars forward is the fact that the underside of the bar will not be supported like it is in the factory setup. Not saying I wouldn't do the same thing, but it would be may be a good idea to cut off the bottom tabs and reuse them when mounting it forward.

Edit: I believe Mouth did the above in his writeup.

I moved the bottom saddles along with the top saddles when I did mine.

Did you see my thread?
