Hello all,
I am rebuilding a ski for my uncle (hes about 6'2 at 245lbs)
He used to ride all the time and can actually ride my 550 rather well for a larger guy on a 550.

I have an extra hand pole lying around and was thinking if I cut that down, he may be able to ride more comfortably.

Also, let me know what you think of the ski and
any suggestions are welcome, but........

Mind you that I am giving him this ski and I have so far put this together with parts I had lying around. I have about $125 tied up in this ski right now and my limit is close to $150 so please dont tell me to buy him a SuperJet (although I do love my SN)

The ski has
aluminum flywheel
44 Carb
Primer kit
Weisco Pistons
Milled head 175 PSI per cylinder
15.5 impeller
extended ride plate
Dual cooling
Scoop intake
Aluminum Finger Throttle
Stock paint job
New Hydroturf

Thanks all

Sure, you can cut the pole. Not as easily as on a SJ, but you can do it.

I would jest get the thing running. Don't put anything in it you don't have to. A ski like that is not worth the $$ you could potentially put in it.

LBE,
I didnt on putting too much money into it, like I said my limit is a total of $150. And the thing already fires up and runs, the only thing I need to do to it is add the steering cable (the old one froze up).

But, soon I get to go ride with my uncle(s)

This is "Old School" #4 Ive built for them and their sons

Wedo, that pole looks a bit extreme, I was thinking like -3, yours look like a -6 but thats cool.
Do you have any closer pics of those and/or slight instruction?

This is an extra pole, the ski will be running with a stock pole this sunday after I put in the pole.

See you guys out there soon.

It is definately not the ideal place to go but my uncle's and I will be out on south lake in hollywood,fl if anyone happens to be around there.

Basically what I did was to cut the pole in two pieces, break loose the tube running through it at the bottom and take it apart, then cut the top part however much you want off the length minus about 1 inch. Then you grind the inside out of the top part about half the thickness of the material, grind down the outside of the bottom half the same way till they fit back together. You don't want a real tight fit but not too loose either. Now you mix up some epoxy and cabosil and butter the two surfaces up and connect the two.Let it dry, then grind a vee into both pieces and glass it up with several layes of glass and epoxy resin.Mix up some epoxy and microballoons filler and pull it on,sand and feather, prime and paint, voila.

its south of north lake.

:haha:

seriously....

hollywood blvd runs between them and theyre just west of a1a.... part of the ICW.

im not sure where youd launch though..... looks like you can do it from the n/w corner :dunno:

There really is no where to put in at south lake. You would have to put in at the marina on North Lake and then "no wake" around, underneath hollwyood bridge and then youd be in South lake. Once you get into south lake you are out of the no wake zone.

If you google 33019 will get you a map and you can pan around to see north and south lake.

My grandparents have had a house their since '71. My Uncles and I Made a 2x4 ramp that we lay by the dock to launch and load the skis. There is not really anywhere to launch or even temporarily beach a ski. most DEFINATELY not ideal but I get to park for free and see my grandparents. I wish it was more ideal I might get some of you guys out there. The one good benefit is that some large boats god down the intracoastal and throw some massive wake or you can stay a little farther away from the intracoastal and stay out of the way of the big wake.
