Overheated, possible carnage

I need advice asap! My 780x2 sucked in a massive seaweed chunk today. This clogged the pump enough that water was not flowing through the ski. The sun glare was so bad that I did not notice the pisser was not flowing. After an unknown amount of time, the stinger cooling line melted. Ski would still start fine at this point. So I got towed in. Now I get home, replace the cooling hose and run the ski on the hose. Runs fine for 5mins, motor is just warm to the touch, revs nice. Then as soon as I go to shut the hose off the motor dies on its own at idle. I shut the hose of within a second or two and ran over to the ski to restart it. It fires, then dies after 2-3seconds. I checked spark which is fine and topped off the gas tank. Plugs appear wetish with gas. I am at a loss with this one! I dont have compression gauge here, but the finger over the hole test seemed to be consistant with a good pop on each cylinder. Without a compression test is there anything else to look for?

DID I KILL THIS MOTOR TODAY?????

UPDATE!

I could not rest or go to work tomorrow until I knew the fate of my motor!!! (YES I was ready to use a vacation day tomorrow to figure it out) So, after unsuccessfully being able to buy a compression gauge anywhere on a sunday night... I then hooked the trailer back on and took the ski to a big parking lot because it was way too late to keep trying to running it at the house, and so I could park under a light. Dried off the plugs and cranked it over a few times. Repeated a few times and finally it jumped to life! Gave it a few good revs to blow out the water and clear it out. Starts up effortlessly now and runs fine. I am still going to compression test it on Friday, but I am alot more relaxed now.... What I think happened was the cooling hose that goes to the bottom of the FP melted where I could not see it. So when I flushed it...it made massive pressue on the pipe and probably got some water in the cylinder. When I was all done I sprayed some fogging oil in each hole. Hopefully, all I have to do is replace that bottom FP cooling line and call it a day.

Thanks to IHOP for towing me and Powder for towing my brother.

Why? He replaced the bad cooling hose first. Do you think he was running too much pressure from the hose and over cooling the engine?

He replaced a cooling line, not all cooling lines. one was still bad.

Oops, I guess I should read the posts more carefully. Sounds like he avoided major carnage. She prolly got a little hot and tight, hopefully only minimal damage if any. Get that compression tested and ride it like you stole it..

it ran great after the overheat, on the hose.

then it died while he was shutting the flush water off, and it wouldnt run well when he tried to restart it.

sure sounds to me ( and him from his following posts) that he dumped some water in the engine and made it hard to start.

Correct, I replaced 2 lines that I saw were f'ed up. The one going to the bottom of the FP headpipe I inspected what I could see, but I cant see the bottom. Going to pull the headpipe on Friday and replace the hose anyway.
