Just curious, why buy 2 skis instead of buying 1 and modding it out. If you have $12000 to spend, why go with 2 $6000 skis. if you like mad power, why not get a $12000 ski?

Buy an sxr, spend alot less money, and it rips harder than a new superjet all day long, since your not too interested in doing mods. besides, majority of the ppl on this website swear by the "701 b pipe SJ" and I have yet to ride one that lives up to the expectations I thought it would be. Unless of course, as stated in my previous post, you have a completely pimped out ski with porting, and lots of time and money into the motor. But for the same basic setup most people run, I havent been impressed. Alot of that has to due with poor tuning. Ive rode alot of sj's that have alot more potential than what they put out

I bought an 07' SXR at the end of July. I wanted a Superjet because of all the posts I read on here but my dad decided to buy the SXR (I'm only 16, it's his money and his decision).

Overall, I'm just happy that I got a standup. I've wanted one forever. Previously, I've ridden a freestyle modded Square nose and a race modded Round nose (when yamaha stand ups still raced) and I could barely keep balance, but it was a blast. Never learned to jump on them...

When I got my SXR, I was jumping good size waves by Day 2 with excellent balance. I ride on Lake Michigan, so getting the SXR outta the water isn't that hard, but every now and then on those ridculously flat days...it get's pretty hard. But thats when you try learning subs and hood tricks. In fact, I got down the fountain last weekend.

I also want to install Kicker footholds.

But believe me, the SXR in stock form is fast! I was holding on like crazy and didn't even go full throttle for a couple of a days of riding.

hope this helps.

I'd have to say because 2 people can ride, modded skis tend to always have problems...when your talking about a $12000 ski that is..or even a cheap modded ski, and then you spend even more money fixing it.

Well,
Besides the fact that only having yourself to ride with SUCKS! The other will be for my wife. The only thing that she wants outside of a stock ski......is some type of pink graphic design or paint job. Everything else will only be done to the one I will be riding.

Where are you located? You may be able to find some of the riders on here to let you test an sj and sxr out to see which one you like.

I live in South Jersey. Dont really know anyone outhere.

Oh and I kind of figure this would be a debated topic among SJ and SXR junkies. I guess it is all preference.

Has anyone heard anything about the 2008 SXR, the SJ is well publicized but, I cant find anything about the SXR. Are they going with the four stroke, changing anything? Is it just gonna be a new paint job on the same old design?

:biggthumpup:Get a ski (either SXR or SJ) and ride it first. Find out if you want to keep going with it. Let the wife ride it and see how she likes it. For this reason I would get the stock boat.

If you like the boat, than look for a second ski for yourself, you can now buy a modded one, or convert to an SJ if you feel like you want a bigger challenge. :knockedout:

Learning to ride a standup is very fun, however I have let people ride my boat and they got very frustrated with how tippy they are. I wouldn't want you to buy 2 boats to realize that you arn't into the sport.

And trust me, once you start modding a standup you will always lose on resale. You will never get back what you put into it.

Between the SJ & SXR, its a tough call. To me an SXR is BIG! I'm 5'8" 155lbs, I stand in the footholds on an SJ and still think the boat is big... I couldn't own an SXR. I need all the weight and size savings I can get. I can only throw so much at my machine for my strength. I think with an SXR I would not be able to do 1/2 as much as I can on an SJ.

Either that or I could put the booze down and hit the gym. :dunno:

Or I can just stick with riding an SJ

Also, don't worry about riding alone. You live in NJ, there are a bunch of NJ guys on the board. Get a ski and proper gear and hit the water.

I'm sure a handful of them will show you the ropes. Plus you'll get to ride with better guys, which will make you better.

i would get 2 08 sjs. they'll only be around for a couple more years and im sure that they will be in high demand a few years down the road. you might get what you paid for em if 09 really is the last year of the premix two-stroke stand up. no reason to buy new sxrs. theyve been around for awhile and you can get them for much cheaper. besides, yamahas seem to be more reliable and better built.
