Okay, SXR or SJ???

Alright new guy here,

I am going to be purchasing two new skis. My only experience is on a 750Sxi. I probably have only got about 30hrs of ridin. After doing a lot of reading here, it seems the SJ is the choice for a large number.

I am 6 2" and weight about 210lb, so I thought the SXR might be better. I dont plan on doing too many mods to them soon after getting them so that really doesnt matter. I was quite happy with the power of the 750.

Given that, what are your thoughts? The SXR is cheaper with more power but, a little heavier. The SJ is more expensive and seems to be a better all around ski.

I dont mean to start a popularity contest but, I am leaning toward the SXR.

Recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!

What kind of riding do you do?
Freeride/Freestyle= Superjet
Racing/carving= SXR

the SJ will take some mods to be a good ski. stock is a lousy aluminum impeller, intake grate, etc.
then again, the SXR will need some mods too, so just plan on that in the future.
Race = Kawasaki
Freestyle = SJ
If you can, try each out first to make an informed decision.
I, and most others, prefer the SJ for an all around ski if you dont race.:smoker:

yes if you like to do tricks and wave jumping and it kinda depends where you are you might wanna get a superjet thats what i wanna do and if you find out you wanna race more there are people that race em to but its just not a ski made for that purpose. Thats what ive been hearing ive never ridden a sj but the sx-r i have and its pretty amazing

Seems simple to me. You say you want to buy a couple of new skis....buy one of each. I absolutely love my SJ, especially after coming off a 750 SXIPro. Having said that, would I like to add an SXR to the stable?? Hell yes.

The season is near to an end. Wait for the 2008 superjet to hit the showroom. I have ridden almost every stand up machine produced, the new sj is the best all around ski ever. The new hull design only makes it better. That said get on as many different skis as you have available to you. Ride them the way you intend to ride the ones you purchase. I weigh as much as you but about 2 1/2" shorter. Both are good machines.

I'm 6" and 205 lbs...i got a fully motified 04 SXR and love it....for about 3 years i tried my friends SJ one motified and one 50 % motified....and i just could get the hang of it.now after 2 weeks with sxr i couldn't be happeir

I am also 6' and weigh 195, and I love my SXR. It is a heavier craft than the Superjet, but is also quite capable to tricks and jumping. I think it's a little more stable and the tray is wider for larger riders or novices.
I have seen many people doing barrel rolls with the SXR, and other things, so for people to rule the SXR out as a "trick" ski seems ignorant to me. Yes, the SJ is more nimble and makes it easier to pull off these tricks, but it doesn't mean it is the only stand-up for that purpose.
Ideally, I plan on buying a SJ once I become more proficient with my SXR.
I guess you could say its a good boat for novices, but I see a lot of guys on here pulling off incredible stuff in the surf with the SXR's.

Alright, thanks for all the input.

I cant say that I plan on just doing a bit of carving. I have not ridin this summer at all. Last summer I had just got to the point where I could start learning the simplest of tricks and be able to land some really big air off friends boats wakes. I definitely have the freestyle bug.

I plan on buy the 2008 models at this point because this season is almost over anyway. Since I live in NJ, I will only have a few more months, I might as well just wait.

I considered buying one of each but, it just seems like a bit more leg work when I need to take them in for something or even purchase them. I honestly know nothing about two stroke engines and really nothing about the mechanical side of jet skis at all. I imagine its nothing a bit of reading cant fix but, none the less.

I do wear a size thirteen and if the SXR has bigger tray, I may really benefit from that. Especially since I wont be putting any footwells for the first season or so.

For people that have ridin both.........can you feel a real difference between the thrust of the SXR/SJ??? stock that is. I will not have the opportunity to try either one of them before purchase, I moved out here to the east coast last year and dont know anyone.

Bottom line is, I would love to spend the money on mods right away but, between the sports car and the truck......the wife is already budging on letting me get a couple of skis.

If this forum seems to be anything like my Titan forum, I will begin to dislike it because of the money it will force me to spend just to fullfil my need to make everything stronger, faster, and cooler!!!

I have already been drooling over the footwells, intake grate, and everything else that I will need.

I am the kind of person that has to make everything bigger better and faster. .......Im sure you all understand, its almost an addiction.

You can do everything on a motified SXR that you can on a motified SJ , ( not me, i've only seen it ) i wear size 12 1/2 and feel like my feet is traped in the SJ.......and most of the time on the SJ when i stand the back sinks ( i think due to weight ) not sure but my vote is SXR .....yuo can have the speed and do the tricks ( as long as you have the Balls )

07 SXR in stock form kills the 07 superjet. 08 might bring hope for the stock sj but I still don't think in will handle as good as sxr.

srx's get boring. when i first started riding i called the sxr a sitdown you stand up on. the stability is just too much and it lost the fun and challenge that i like.
after a half year riding my slightly modified roundnose i wonder how i would feel about the sxr...:Banane39:

This thread will always turn into a war, but if your not planning on racing and want to just jump waves and do freestyle, the superjet wins hands down. I ride sxrs at least once a month and I can tell you they stay glued to the water and are made to carve and go fast.

The new 2008 Superjet is much better than the previous, not that the old one is bad at all. The new 2008 SJ hooks up much better and carves alot better than before,but it is still behind the sxr. I have talked to a few people who have rode it already. Its nothing super special, but a big improvement over the same old 11 year old ski.

With that said, buy an SXR. If your not racing still buy one. Unless you plan on getting into freestyle and surf riding heavily, you don't want a SJ.

EDIT: I have had both. I still have my sxr's but I sold my superjet. My superjet was pretty nice and fun to ride, but to me it was not as fun as an sxr unless I was jumping boat wakes, then they were even in my opinion. Unless you can get a really pimped out superjet, its not worth the money. Not for being more expensive than an sxr.

Get a 701 motor with a pipe, head, cutback prop, and modded cdi or enhancer and it will rip and still be reliable.
