What are the known problem areas on a stock hull

In other words:

IF I were to get an SJ or and SXR that were stock (or new) what areas would need to be reinforced straight away to avoid trouble down the road.

I'm more interesed in making a bomb proof ski than anything else. This will be a free ride ski in every sense of the word. it will see all conditions, and I want it to last.

What are you riding now? Unless your going inverted already, I doubt you need to reinforce "straight away". If you get it before it gets to cold, I say ride it, and then reinforce this winter, no reason to waste time this late in the season, esp in michigan. If your going to pull the motor to reinforce anyways, you might as well do the entire inside of the hull-the bottom, sides, underneath the pole, and firewall to just be done with it. Only way to make it "bomb proof" would be to reinforce it all.

What I'm riding now makes no difference. I've busted the nose right off of it and am constantly repairing the sides of the engine bay.

As for the time frame, this is just research. But when I DO pull the trigger in the next few months I have no problem yanking the motor and going to work on strengthening the hull first thing. I beat the hell out of my skis. Not cuz I'm a sick rider but because I'm still learning and balls outweigh my skills. I've even toyed with the idea of getting a hull and motor/pump separate and build my own boat that way.

-Saki- I've seen issues with SJs cracking at the bulkheads too.

the areas i see crack the most are the hoodlip area on the sj.. if/when you reinforce, get up under there REAL good.. dont just do the sides.. the hood lip is where most of my hulls have cracked/broken at one point or another.

the other area i've broken have been the handlepole base area.. get up under there real good too, lay up a few layers all across the handlepole base bottom from side to side of hull.

and the last area i've had trouble with is the rear bottom sides/corner of the hulls learning rolls. you land enough 3/4 rolls and that back side/corner cracks and starts caving in, letting tons of water in your hull/foam. it's so common, that i belive blowsion even sells deflector shields for that.

I've only ever seen one ski crack at the bulkhead and that was pancake pete beating on a used aftermarket flatwater hull.
