Looks nicer, higher resale value, more HP stock, there are more reasons that others have already listed too. The people that seem to be backing the SN are the ones without a RN. Not saying there is anything wrong with a SN, but if they were priced the same, no one would pick a SN. Price is the only real disadvantage, but i got a 02 SN with worx 201 grate, solas concord, umi spring, yamaha cover, aluminum trailer (very nice btw w/ adjustable bunks), bilge, worx plate, for 2700. I've got about 3500 total into it now with b pipe, rev's, odi grips, wammer pole bracket, pjs billet throttle, black diamond hydroturf, -4" pole, and probably some other crap I already forgot about. I don't think that is super steep for what I have now, other than the pita it was to do all of that.

you could have the same ( or more) boat for the same ( or less) money though if you started with a square nose boat.

there arent any advantages to a round nose, OTHER than parts availability, and stock power.

once you start modding the engines, there isnt really an advantage either way ( other than price vs availability)

i will definitely say after comparing my SN against 4 different roundnoses this summer, from less power than mine, to wayyy more power, from - 6 poles to standard length, the round definitely has a different feel. Undeniable. Almost felt more stable, like i could go slower and still stand. They were more prone to stay upright and level. My .02 cents

No kidding price is the only reason, I'm not denying that.

I'm saying dollar for dollar I would rather have a ski that performs better for less $, and you can get that with a modified used SN.

And don't even think about saying I'm to poor to buy a RN. I have the money for a RN but I didn't feel looks were worth justifying the additional cost. I'd rather put that $$ into the engine of a $1k 701 SN and have a complete high-performing ski for the cost of a stock RN.

You got a screaming deal on your RN like I got on my stock SN but those are few and far between. The average cost of a stock or slightly modified RN can net you a highly modified, in great condition SN. For me looks are NOT that important, hell I don't even mind a pure white SN with the purple pad as long as it runs like a top and I can have fun.:smokin:

Personally, I'll be buying an after market hull before I buy a RN hull.

Each person has their own opinion, needs and taste.

I have a squarenose and absolutely love it. The only thing I wish there were aftermarket hoods available. I notivce absolutely no handling difference when I ride other peoples round noses. As a matter of fact, The watercraft factory skis dotn feel all that much different either. Maybe its because i have an lpw monster motor in it and a -3 x-metal pole. The only sj that I've ridden that feels different to me is the lightweight ones.

But then again I'm just a rec rider that cant really do any tricks so my opinion isnt the best lmao.

my square nose is 650 powered, LIGHT ( fresh foam) in the rear, and short pole.

I feel like you feel.

not much difference between it and a round.

strange that some folks say they feel different, is it the short pole?

or the fresh foam that makes the difference?

My sons square nose is water logged, and it handles MUCH differently then mine. I wonder if that is what alot of folks impressions of squarenose boats are based upon?

I think you might be onto somethign there. Mine is freshly redone completely. It was never in the water before I refoamed, turfed and put the motor in. Plus the pole might make a huge difference too.

i ride both with alot of the same hull mods and the RN still feels better, not sure why? We have studied them side by side and measured stuff its all in the top deck some how. When jumping the RN FEEL's lighter, it may not be but its flight characteristics make it seem like it is. The main thing too is the RN are just plain sexy with a lowered hood and nose. hood tricks are easier on the lower hoods from the lower center of gravity. I am so glad i am finally getting a RN!!!!

Stock skis have the tray padding installed with stainless screws. The screws go all the way through the hull exposing the foam. My 650SX was missing the lower mounting screws for the tray padding in the front. So my 650SX has 2 holes 3/8" wide sitting in the bottom of the tray and the water sits in the tray so where is it going to go? I have no doubt in my mind that my 20 year old ski is full of water, just because of the screw holes they put in it to mount the pads.

Take a 2000+ RN and those holes haven't absorbed much water. Grab a 17 year old SN and I bet it's nice and saturated.

In fact, I have never seen that on the six or seven SJ's I've worked on.

None of the yamahas ive messed with had this either.

BUT, I think his point is valid, and similar to what I was saying.

the older boats are generally waterlogged and handle differently because of that.

I agree....get over the looks and you can spend less money for the same thing.

I like the way the SN handles better than a RN.....with that said....I have been on more SN than RN....and matts RN is set up goofy:shooter3:

I ride both too once in a while. The RN is sweet because its not a 650 which my square is.

I agree with D roc the RN just feels better.... Not sure why.
