Kicking around the idea of shortening my hull...

SXR-FOREVER

I plan on getting a new hull (mine is cracked basically beat to ********) so I was thinking about shortening the old one just really don't know anything about it? Also want to make some hull extensions that are removable that will bring some handling back if I need it.

How far do you people cut there hulls back? What do you do w/ the ride plate? Rideplate mounts? Tools? ETC?

I glanced through the build up pages and tried searching on here and pwctoday and didnt see much info or pics. If anyone has any please share!

Thanks for any help!

As in cutback SXR hull? You might be one of the first with one of those. My square nose is a -3.5 I LOVE IT!!!! :brap:

The nose just wants to jump sky high when you hit the throttle....If you are a lighter person I would advise not to cut as much but I'm heavier so its easy to push the nose down in those situations.

Malone cut his approx -2", but the newer ones are getting back to stock size for competition reasons. I think the newest one is only about 1/2" - 3/4" shorter than stock. He said that it was more difficult to backy it now. It has to do with the pump location, not so much with the shorter hull. Check the new Yamaha hull out with moving the pump back. I guess they used to extend the pump back to accomplish the same thing.

There are more than a few "Old Skool X-2 Riders" that would love to have just the bottom hull section from your SXR!

Havent decided yet what I'll do with the old one, may build myself an extra ski.

So how would I go about moving back the pump?

Also does anyone know any build up pages where you superjet guys cut your hulls back?

Thanks

Thomas Günther is the main doctor of it :)
Maybe you know him... www.jetsport.de
All we made ist :

We put the superjet driveshaft into the B1 pump and we we`re cuttin
the whole pump piece including the mounts and the rideplate mounts.

But ask Thomas... he did it several times. He can help you out with this...
Next time I`ll make some pics of it.

I'm almost positive moving the pump back is almost the same as cutting the hull shorter....and if it isn't, its a he** of a lot easier than moving the pump back

A shortened hull with shortened handlepole and footholds placed further forward in the tray, make barrel rolls sooooo much easier. I will never own a standard length boat again.

how far would I move the pump back? I moved my motor back 1.5" using an SXI Pro driveshaft thats 1.5" shorter... I could use the stock SXR shaft and move the pump back the 1.5"... I assume the point is more water can be in the pump when its out of the water?

Also how hard is it to move the back rideplate mounts if I shorten the hull?

Shortening the hull is probably going to be ALOT easier...you may be able to cut 1.5"-2" off the back of your hull and not have to mess with the pump or plate at all (besides shortening the rideplate).

Is it just the hull thats shorter or do you have to move the engine inside forward and the pump...? what has 2 hapn inside and pumpwise 2 execute it?

the back ride plate mounts will be right at the end of the hull almost, more than an inch and they will have to move.

As far as moving the pump back, I have an idea or two that should be pretty damn easy - only probem I can foresee is making sure it is perfectly lined up to the motor etc. Just need too look at a kawi pump to figure it out.

Would you be able to put your stock DS in and move your pump back ~2" or however shorter your old shaft was? How about cutting off the mounting ears and rewelding them further up on the pump?
