Yamaha Octane build

my goal is the weekend, however I'm waiting on my pipe. I weighed it bare except with the hpole bracket, backing plate and hood hooks and it was 100lbs. I figure the final reinforcement will weigh what it does with the hpole bracket and etc. So I'm pretty sure it will be a 100lb hull, it should be very solid. It weighs the same as every other hull i've owned with the exception of the prepreg rev.

A nice turf job always makes a project ski look professional. Good job.

If you use an SJ steering cable, let me know. I'm trying to figure if I can put one on my Octane. But, I'm wondering if you've changed so much if it would even relate to mine anymore.

I'm running a sj cable, i'd bet one would fit in yours just fine. I have absolutely no polaris parts in the ski except for the hull pieces. I do know that the pole must be longer by a couple of inches, but there should be enough slack to be alright

I put in about 5 hours in the pump area today, grinding on the tilt nozzle and shimming and 5200'n the pump shoe and pump today. Turns out my gap wasn't acceptable between the pump shoe and the rubber gasket. I had to shim my pump shoe out with washer and re-glue it to make it right. The tilt nozzle would also bind up and stick when tilted up and turning, Did lots of grinding to make it work. For once I have a tilt nozzle that doesn't automatically turn will the tilt lever is pulled, doesnt bind or stress the steering cable at all( steering cable thru-hull location was moved up directly in line with the turn nozzle, above the pump cooling boss (pic is inverted). White 5200 makes a heck of mess on black paint.

Sides are reinforced with a layer of biaxial and texilium is layed over the top. I hate working with texilium and will never do inside a hull again after this build. I will use a color cloth next time.

Pole and engine to find their new home tomorrow.

Turfing is done, it took over 8 hours for Chad and I to do this. Since the tray had extra room, we turfed in some subtle lifters in front and behind the footholds to see if they'll be helpful for riding out of the footholds. Side panels are one piece no seams. Nice think underpadding on the tray, in the footholds and shaped into a kick tail, tray is damn cushy. I broke a foot a few years ago, and prefer really soft turfing.

That has to be the best turf job I have ever seen.

Ok I will ask, what exactly is wrong with drilled and tapped aluminum for inserts?

Nothing wrong prolly, but stainless hardware w/ alum. inserts has always seemed to corrode and sieze on me if not removed and relocktighted frequently. Ever remove a umi bar clamp after a year of use SUCKS. On another note, it is the same route I would have gone. This build is SICK I love it. Here is a pic of the REV build in action , we wonna be like RAMJET LOL

I really like the Texilium inside and feel it was worth the added time to insall. It really brightens up the inside on my SJ hull and looks kick AZZ with a non bleshing epoxy resin.
