Would you let anyone ride your SJ?

Nobody has ever asked to ride any of my skis. I will not let anyone ride my 650sx thats piped and has a bigger carb. I would consider letting someone else ride the stock 650sx after getting the run down on how everything works and the rules of the lake. I would consider letting someone who seems fairly together ride the stock one because I can be right on top of them on my own.

If it were not for a friend of my father, letting us ride his 550 I would never even have considered getting a stand up, let alone knowing what they were.

Only dudes that are with hot chicks.

and I charge beers for rides.

then I get to sit and drink beer and hang out with the chicks, while the dudes get drug around by my boat.

I like your style!!!

I never got to ride one before mine. I probably would have been willing to spend more on a super jet if I had. I got them in my head by going to the Kawi dealer for dirt bike stuff. Everytime I saw that new SX-R, I got half a stalk. It would be good for the sport if the dealers carried them to plant the seed. The yamaha dealer does them by special order only. They figure they don't sell them so why stock them. Kawi may not have sold me a SX-R, but the seed was planted, I bought a Kawi and they have gotten business for the older ski. Had I seen a yamaha, I probably would have bought a yamaha, which would have been parts income for Barneys.

Sure.. I actually let someone ride my round this past weekend and next year I think he'll be buying one. I knew he was hooked when he rode out and around, came back by me and rode right by me to do it again.

i usted to let poeple ride mine all the time and last summer my sis BF desided he could just take it out and sucked up some water and cost me about a grand, which he did not pitch in a pennie or time to help rebuild. so i no longer let people that dont know how to ride standups take my ski out, which sucks b/c i hate being a hardass on peoples fun.

I feel the same way. I just got mine fixed, and I don't want to go through that again, and neither does my wallet... If you can ride, you can ride mine all you want :brap:

I like to tell folks when they ride mine " Be careful, watch for boats, just DONT hold it wide open, otherwise you cant hurt it"

I wonder why I never get water ingestion?

I mean, they do occasionally flip it, sink it and, it runs doggy, but a few minutes of me riding it hard, and its cleared out again?

why do some folks have more trouble with others with water actually causing damage?

My hood doesnt seal good, boat takes on alot of water, and ive only got electric bilges, no scupper or anything fancy.

curious?

I don't like riding other peoples ski and I don't like letting anyone use mine, but it happens.... I usually sit there and freak out the whole time till they get back...

We let people ride our skis frequently. Usually they are experienced riders, friends, or aquaintances. With the newbies/first-timers, we do a little boater safety school first on how to ride, how to not run into things, etc. We make sure the bilge is on before they go. Then one of us goes out with the other standup to babysit. If they fall down, we stop, get them up again, keep them from hydrolocking the ski, etc. More fun for them if they don't completely wear themselves out just trying to get back on. It also minimizes risk to them and to our toys.

We learned the hard way when we had our XP's (that anybody could ride). We sent out a boyfriend/girlfriend pair once that swore they had "experience" riding jetskis. One ski got hydrolocked so bad my hubby thought it might have bent a rod or other damage. After that, we always rode one and let someone ride the other one, never let them out of our sight.

This works just fine with the standups, too. We also always put newbies on our tamest, closest to stock, easiest to ride boat. Only takes a little time and they're worn out anyway, we coast around for 10 minutes and then they're done, . . . . . . next?

Two virgin stand uppers rode mine in the ocean in the last five weeks. One was a surfer dude from cali and he rode five gallons and stood up right away. By the second hour he was surf riding like he had been on that thing forever. The second dude was an all state football player jr in high school and his posse was laughing at him all day cause he never stood up. On a real small day the ocean is much safer on my ski than some lake or river. Safer for the rider too.

ditto....

this weekend was first for me i let a group of people ride it only since i knew them ( friends visiting). but i made the stipulation that we head to part of the lake where there be less boats and traffic and no shore to hit...went well,2 guys couldnt get up but the 2 women did....

then on sunday.. hanging at the sandbar..this randow person comes up to me and ask me, whos this SJ below to. I say mine.. then he proceded to ask me if he could take it for spin ...

told him no, i do not know you so. thought it was ballsy for him to just come up and ask..:drillsergeant:

I let other jetskiers ride mine - no problem. Friends too, but only after a lecture and only in clear open water, far from land. If I have it with me, I put newbies on my old SN - easier for them.

My ski must be a whore cuz any one can ride it. Its not fragile, no way they newbies will treat it like I do thats for sure. And if they are CHICS, hayell yeah they can ride it.

I have a fugly mostly stock SN that I call "ghetto". Ain't much to look at but great for teaching my 8yr old daugter, 9yr old nephew how to ride. That same ski is available for anyone who wants to try it. This ski also happens to be the only ski that is water worthy as we speak. Funny thing, my daughter is already practicing subs without effort......everytime she comes in gotta run the bilge.

Since you need a safety cert. in NJ, as long as they have one, I am usually cool with letting them ride. But its usually people that are with our riding group, not just total strangers who walk down from the beach. I've converted one coucher so far this year...
