is this far enough back

starting my footholds, i just made a template out of cardboard and traced it on to the gunwhale. the out line is the edges of the hold, so it will really be cut in abt 2'' from that outline, but is this too far back for the foothold or just right. ive never done this so i would like input b4 i start cutting

Give yourself enough room to glass the rear lip of the foothold. It looks a little far back but should work there if you want it to.

well thats what i was saying, that outline is where the lip will be, so the glass will wrap around it i think. should i move it up? i just dont want it too far up bc i do know that when i jump now, i move my feet all the way back almost to the edge of the tray, so far back is def more comfortable for me.

heres something else odd, i used a tape measure to try and get the marks as close to one another as possible on each side. i move the original mark up a 1/2 inch further, and then did the left side with the same template measureing from the front of the tray to the tip of the template, and the back is now off a 1/4'' from the other... its almost as if the ski isnt quite the same on each side.

well i cut the right one out, but i cant get the foothold to sit flush against all surfaces, and the hole is more than big enough, and i removed more foam than i needed. is this going to straighten up once i rivit it to the sides and trey? i just dont want to crack the hold by putting too much stress on it.

footholds are not always perfect, I have had to cut slits in the footholds to get them to lay down, when you screw them in place while gluing they will lay down.

you can always adjust the fit later..its not that much more fiberglass work



weight forward is your friend with flatwter freestyle





i'd push them forward a little bit, and make sure to cut your pole accordingly as well

too late, i cut one out last night. i moved it foward abt 1/2'' and thats it. i stood in with the one in and it felt good, but what do i know ive never used them.

thats all that matters (keep in mind if the ski was flat on a stand, it will feel WAYYY different in the water sitting at a 35' angle

alright here is where im at. i cut the other hole out and took the foam out

here is the issue that i was speaking of earlier though. even with the rivits in the hold is still not flush. i talked with paul at lpw and he said he encountered the same issue doing these.
here is the one i have rivited already

the hold that is rivited in was the one that was better fitting, and it isnt even going flush. i am very concerned abt the one on the right bc it is a lot worse fitting.

and these things dont flex easily. will the small gaps on the one on the left be ok once i fill with foam and glass over them? any tips on getting the right one flush

why did you rivet them in without putting epoxy mixed with filler in behind them?

You should have mixed epoxy with silica filler and got a epoxy paste, spread it around the hull and back of holds. Then riveted them into place, this would have sealed around them, making the glass around the edges less crucial. Also you should have rivets on the bottom of the foothold, securing it to the bottom of the tray.

If you had filler in there, you wouldnt be worried about those gaps.

i didnt rivit the bottom bc i was going to drill out the rivits. i didnt put epoxy behind them bc i didnt know if they would close up or not and i didnt want to do something that i couldnt take back. for filler can i just dice up some cloth and mix it in with the epoxy resin, or just use some marine epoxy gel in the tubes?

i got 2 of the epoxy compounds in a syringe. i used the thin epoxy and one of the syringes on the backs of the holds. rivited them in. now that it is tacky dry im going to fill in the vioid that i missed with the second thing of epoxy in a tube. i ended up getting a friend to come over and press the hold with a block of wood while i rivited it down. it turned out pretty well in my opinion. i just have to pour foam and seal off the holes i cut then its time for glass.

oh yea, and for future refrence to anyone else that is using the uscomposites 2 part foam... be careful taking the top off of the part b stuff... mine hit me in the phucking forehead bc it was under a shat ton of presure.. :irked:
