I shipped my ski to Florida for the Daytona, ride. I was able to score a crate from a local dealership for free. I went through forward air, and it was three- four days from salt lake city. to Tampa Florida. and three days back. aprox $400.00 one way I believe

Go to freight quote.com and they can hook you up with 70% discounts on shipping. Its very easy to build a big crate. Put 2x4's on the bottom so they fork lift drivers can get the forks under the crate. You can also insure the entire thing through freightquote.com Its the fastest and most easy way to ship. They will give you prices from all the shipping companies. You can go to their online site and get quotes that way as well. But calling them is the best.

Pete, try Forwardair.com, they have a shipping calculator and crates you just tie them up in.

I have used Forward Air twice to ship from CA to NJ and once to ship a hull from here to GA. All times they were the best price.

If you can build the crate and are willing to drive it to Newark to drop it off at their terminal that would be the cheapest (or check if they have a terminal closer to you).

Be sure and drain that crankcase oil, you don't want that ski getting inverted and all the oil running out everywhere:sneaky::squareeyed:

Hey pete:wavey:

I've had friends who have had cars shipped cross country for less than 1000.00. Maybe you can load a few skis in your truck & ship that:dunno:

Pete, I'm a freight forwarder.
Send me origin and destination zip codes. I'll tell you what it should cost you but I can't make the arrangements or you. We do not move any personal goods, long story.

At least you know you won't be getting ripped off though....

Quote from one of the largest carriers in North America.
Dock to Dock (business to business)

Based on 84"Lx30"Wx36"H @ 400lbs, doesn't matter you have up to 525lbs to fill (cube rule)

5 business days service, not including pickup day
=$442.22 including fuel surcharge, 1 way transit.

Keep in mind my discount with these guys isn't as good as some. Not sure why, probabaly because I'm out of our Canadian office and they don't like us. We should be getting 77-79% disc, this was rated with a 58% disc.

Contact a local terminal in your area, or use on of the sites listed.

I'd pay no more than $375 - $400 inlcuding everything, if not take your freight elsewhere.

Drain all fuel, rinse out tank (no fumes), remove battery and leave at home. (bnuy a new one in Cali) make sure all water is out of hull/scupper etc.. If they pick up the crate and see water coming from somewhere hell will break loose for no reason.

Same details & transit used as Petes shipment.
=$433.80

2677miles

NJ - CA was 2937miles

I'd say you could move it for $375-$400 each way also...

I'd try the websites listed here for personal goods. Might be worht looking, I've never tried them myself.

I never took into account additional insurance (usually you get $2.00/lb.) you will want more obviously.

Also keep in mind pricing from CA back to NJ or FL will be more expensive than NJ/FL - CA.

Just as FYI when shopping it. Try that uship.com sounds interesting.
