Carb Conundrum

I've got a 10 year old SRE modified carb that is giving me fits. The throttle shaft snapped in two a few weeks ago. I replaced it with a rebuild kit, but I had to reuse the old throttle plate. Novi 48 plates are backordered.

My ski has been running like dog meat and I'm getting fed up. I've gone through the carb and rebuilt it. The original throttle plate is worn a bit on the edges...but, I have a hard time believeing it would cause it to run this sh*tty. This weekend I swapped out my carb with a friend's Novi ,and it ran pretty decent. And that was with out touching the screws.

So, If I decide to go with a new carb, I'd prefer to keep it single. I understand SRE has been out of the loop for a while. Is TLR still doing carbs?

If the throttle plate is worn from rattling back/forth, it causes an airleak essentially and it pulls less fuel than it should until it gets on the main circuit. If you do rebuild it, be sure to shim the throttle plate perfectly or it will happen again.

Yeah, that does make sense. I suspect that with the throttle plate worn it's not helping matters. It's eaten away at 3 and 9 o'clock. I centered it as best I could before tightening the plate screws. I'll try to get a macro shot of it later so that you guys can see what I'm looking at. At mid-throttle, the ski can't get out of it's own way. Idle is still OK, Top end is OK, but it is just a gurgling, slobbering mess coming off of idle.

I have the throttle plate coming, but no firm delivery date. Interesting that there are different throttle plates available (with different degree edge angles).

Still, summer's slipping away and I need a backup plan. I don't want to be battling this thing going into fall.
