Those after market hoods also let in alot of water. One gulp w/ the ski upside down, just one rod. The second pic is 14 days later. Thanks LPW on a very quick turn around! I took the ski out today and just like before , I'm in over my head riding this thing. :splatt:

I agree with the hood comment. My Watercraft Factory lets a ton of water in while sitting on it's side. 5 seconds of my ski on it's side is more water than a 10 foot deep nose stab with my stock hood. I might do some custom channels inside this winter to keep water out.

Now if I can just get my motor back .....

If your getting that much water in the hull then something is seriously wrong........

Actually......if you have a scupper or one-way valve, and the boat is upside down, that hull (any hood!) will take in water like a big dog.
That one-way valve is going to be letting all the air out of the bilge and the hood will let it in as fast as it can.

So - this isn't just a hood thing. It works hand in hand with one-way valves.

My hood has 2 air tubes one on each side of the hood. So with the ski laying on it's side the water runs straight in through one air tube and the air leaves through the other. There are no baffles in there so on a horizontal plane there is a clean shot right in.

My old ski has a 24-7 scupper and I never had a problem with water. I had the problem with water before my XFT scupper was installed.

in pic #1....why do the rods start out a silver/polished and end up a rougher looking copper color?

heat? part of the manufactoring process? just curious

That's a Pro-Tec stroker and they use the OEM 64x rods that are lightened.

The bottom rod journal is ground down so you don't have to machine the cases for stroker use.

They only need minor clearance work between the case halves with a small drum sander to work properly.

It's only bent in the middle. Just put a tighter dome on that cylinder.

xft lou, on a more serious note, is that a crack I see on the left side of the boost cutout of the piston in your 2nd pic???

With a rod that tweaked, the side loading stands a good chance of rootin a piston.
