The "Can Can"

Ok... this trick is one of the few tricks MX inspired tricks that people do on standups. Can Cans are all about unweighting yourself at the right time and being neutral to the ski... By "neutral" I mean you want to not effect the flight of the ski w/ your weight, the ski should fly pretty much by itself.

"Can can"
To do this you will need approach the wave perpendicular w/ both feet next to each other, in the center of the tray (not in footholds). Then as you are leaving the top of the wave unweight your body by jumping w/ the ski... this is hard to explain, but you basicly jump right before the ski leaves the water. This will remove the downward force your body is applying to the ski. If you don't perform this jump (hop) the ski will drop out from under you like a rock... That's scary sh*t and always ends in pain or twisted ankles...

Now that you are in the air pull legs up (remember the gunwales are high and you have to clear them) and together as one unit kick both feet out to one side. You are going to want to hold position as long as possible... Then when getting back to ski, look at your feet till you get them planted back in tray. This method gives the most control and least chance of injury.

As you land the ski should be less than 45 degree angle so you don't go in, flounder around then continue riding... This should be a one complete move and you should still be moving forward in a riding position when done...

Once you get this down, start doing switch stance can cans... Launch from regular stance and land in goofy stance..ect.. What ever you can think up...

A few tips:
  1. look at your feet when moving them out... It helped me figure out where I was at at first
  2. limiting rope is a big help if the ski or tray gets away from you. THAT DOESN"T MEAN USING A ROPE IS OK... THAT'S CHEATING BITCHES... Only use it if you are gonna wreck or die..
  3. practice unweighting yourself by doing pre-hops or bunny hops on flat water... do a few and just lift the feet up a bit to feel it out
  4. remember style and extension are everything w/ this trick... full extension is sweet... everything else is cockroach...
  5. practice just doing no-footers after you get the unweighting thing down...
recomended modifications/gear
  1. Hydro Turf 25mm underpadding
  2. Hydro Turf mats (for good traction)
  3. shortened handpole
  4. remove spring in pole
  5. either tighten pole w/ double locking nuts (tight), or loose/dead weight w/ no spring (how my pole is)
  6. lace up shoes (wrestling)... the slip on type will allow your feet to slide inside the shoe... ouch!!!!
  7. Helmet w/ cage or face protection
both shots are a little off time, or my technique wasn't perfect, but you get the idea...

I like to push my feet out towards the beach. Don't have any on the superjet....here's a blaster shot.
